Do you think replacing HD will fix problem

I have a Tivo and can't record programs. The Tivo will play the recordings that are all ready on the HD. When I try to record the light comes on, but when I play the new recording all I get it a black screen. My question is if I replace the hard drive will it fix my problem? Or do I maybe have a problem with the mother board. Thanks in advance.

Does Live TV work?

It doesn't sound like a hard drive issue to me.

Yes, the live TV works. The TiVo acts like it is recording and you can watch the TV, but when you play back the recording all you get is a black screen

That's very odd. You have rebooted, I take it?

Any modifications/upgrades on this unit?
