Hello folks,
I have a Samsung SIR- S4120R and I purchased a Twinbreeze kit from weaknees.com
I’m looking to add a 2nd 120g wd hd to my tivo series 2.
Now before I do that, I wanna make a backup of my tivo image.
I would like to place the backup image on my new drive then transfer it onto my windows drive. Don't wanna have my windows xp drive involved in this procedure cause I don't wanna mess up my OS.
I’m following a tutorial from http://tivo.upgrade-instructions.com/step1.php
I will have the following drives installed in my pc
New 120g drive installed as Primary Slave
Original Tivo drive installed as Secondary Master
I will use mfstools floppy disk instead of the cd. Makes things easier for me.
From my understanding, these are the commands I need to make a backup..
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt
mfsbackup -f 9999 -9so /mnt/backup.bak /dev/hdc
Now its my understanding that these commands will backup my tivo drive and place a temporary image on my new 120g drive.
Will I need to umount –f –a –r
Or can I just CTRL – AlT –DEL
Then I can copy the image from my new drive onto my windows hd and then I can
mfsadd -x /dev/hdX /dev/hdb
so it can then make my new 120g drive as drive B in my tivo.
SO my A drive is now Master and my B drive will be slave.
Is this correct or am I missing something?
I wanna make sure I do this 100% correct.

Sounds good to me. Just remember to check that the TiVo drive is recognised as the correct size when Linux boots. (dmesg | more if you miss it).

So I'll need to type "dmesg |" ?
I read it was shift & pageup but that didn't seem to work for me.
Thanks so much for the reply!!
I'm learning quite a bit the past few days.
I'm still abit confused by this command
this is the default command
mfsadd -x /dev/hdX /dev/hdY
now to add my 2nd hd and be able to be recognized as drive B in my tivo
Which is the correct command I will need to input?
mfsadd -x /dev/hdc /dev/hdb
c - being original tivo drive (source) SEC MASTER
b - being new 120g drive (destination) PRIMARY SLAVE
or will it be this
mfsadd -x /dev/hdb

A HA!! Did a search and found it.
With my current configuration the command will be
mfsadd -x /dev/hdc /dev/hdb
c - being original tivo drive (source) SEC MASTER
b - being new 120g drive (destination) PRIMARY SLAVE
Thanks Robert, you've helped alot of people.
Thank u sir.
