DVD Player suggestions...

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

OK guys - how about a couple of suggestions regarding a replacement for my very old DVD player (chipped Sony 325).

Here's my requirements:

Multi region of course.
Must be able to play DVD +/- as well as normal DVDs
CD R/RW compatible
MP3 file CD compatible
MPEG file compatible
DTS out feed for amp.
Optical out
Full width (I'm not after one of the mini/half sized dvd players - I want one to fit into the amp rack.)
Also should be all or mostly black! All silver models are not allowed!! ;)

Price range under £150 if possible.

By 'MPEG file compatible' I assume you mean that you can put a normal MPEG file onto a CD/DVD and it will just play it?
This feature will be the one which restricts what DVD player you get.
Normally I would suggest one of the Pioneer players such as the DV-360-K but I don't know if it will support MPEG files.

I would suggest the DK Divx which can also play DIVX and XVID but it's silver.

You can search by features on DVDRHELP

I am seriously considering the DK Divx - although there's no direct mpeg support - it can play video files in other, non dvd, formats. VCD/SVCD/Divx.

Also - it's the blackest of the silver players I've seen :)

there's a review of sorts here

Actually - just looked further on that review site - the player CAN play raw mpeg from CD. :)

Off to order.... :D

You can get it for £80 from SVP. I would be interested to hear what you think of it.

Ordered from SVP yesterday evening. Hopefully get it tomorrow :)

OK had time to play with it now.

Good points:

Not so good points:

A lot of the negatives could be cleaned up with a software release. These units are supposed to be firmware upgradeable via 'playing' a CDr with the upgrade on it.

All in all I'd give it a  for under £80.
