Cracking Up?

Anyone watch this Molly Shannon show? I have it Tivo'd. Is it worth watching?

Posted by: devdogaz

I didn't watch it specifically because it was a Molly Shannon show. Plus, I read some reviews that were not too favorable from critics I generally trust.

But watch it if you want. It'll only take you 20 minutes or so and then you can tell us if it's worth watching.

It was OK. Molly Shannon played her typical crazy women role. Jason Schwartzman was disappointing and the rest of the characters were cliche. I thought I recognized the daughter and sure enough it was the actress who played Sissy on Family Affair last year.

There is a new one tonight, like all shows you have to look past the pilot sometimes to see if they made any decent changes.

Eh, nothing special. I'll probably watch tonight's show to see where it goes.

I recognized her as the daughter on Profiler.

Watched it, not too funny. I'll check out one more episode and then give up on it.

damn- I missed it!

I love Molly..... I didn't even realize it was a show, hopefully I can catch the pilot again in repeatville...

Same opinion here, nothing special. Hopefully it will pick up with the next episode.

Didn't like it.

I'm pretty sure it was because of the guy's hair.

Posted by: transpizzle

i thought it was decent. is that girl on there really just 13 years old in real life?

13-14, yes.

Mediocre still. Zooey Deschanel was a big bonus though. I have a thing for her. :)

I didn't think it was all that bad, especially if you compare it to another new sitcom, "The Help", on the WB.

I think the problem here is that the makers are trying too hard for this to be "different" from standard sitcoms, like they want it to be considered in the same breath with Arrested Development and Scrubs. Unfortunately, they have an uphill climb.

I agree, though - the lead's hair is distracting. Also, did anyone notice how jaundiced everyone looked in the second episode? I had to check my TV to make sure it wasn't dying, but it was definitely the show. In several scenes, everyone's faces had sickly yellow hues. Bad stage lighting, I guess.

Great line from the Pilot episode. The only one that made me laugh.

Dad to the maid after the "Dr." told them that the maid ruined the living room and took a dump on the couch: "What did you eat?"

I liked it, thought it was a fun show and I liked that it was different with it's own style. And I think the characters were cliche on purpose. Sort of reminded me of a Munsters Merged with SOAP.

The characters seem too outlandish. On Arrested Development you can accept that people like that exist, and they can generally function in society while having personality quirks or neuroses. The Cracking Up characters are way too out there.

Plus, it wasn't very funny.

No. Honestly I didn't pay that much attention though. I thought she was supposed to be around 16.

Posted by: transpizzle

i figured she was 16-18 or so.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I think this is one of the best sit-coms I've seen this season. Characters too over the top? Yes, but in a comedy I consider that an asset, not a liability.

Posted by: Supfreak26

It definitely took off in the first ep. Madness straight from the start.

I don't know about this show yet. Watched both eps tonight and I can't decide if I like it or not. The characters are all very quirky but so far haven't given us any reason to care about them.

I don't think I'll watch this show because I believe there will be too many conflicts. But if it makes it to repeats this summer, I'll try and catch up.

I feel like a perv hearing that girl's only 13, btw. I'm such a dirty old man. :D

You guys made me curious so I looked her up. Closer to 15 actually, so you are only sort of perverted. ;)

I thought the show was ok, but it had some serious overacting issues.

I think some may miss the point that they are supposed to be Cliche and over-acting-ness.

Oh well.. At least they will have 2 people watch it. hehe

Three, I thought it was amusing too. It was different, quirky and made me laugh once or twice.

Gotta agree about the hair though.

Posted by: cwoody222

I liked it. I'll be watching.

Posted by: Swirl_Junkie

Count me in too, I liked it. I'm not in love, but It has potential... well until they pull the plug.

Posted by: Sromkie

I thought the first two episodes were pretty good. I will keep watching it for now to see how it goes.
