OK, just two quick comments...

First, did we really need to see that many shots of the dismembered body? Especially the ones showing... parts... hanging off the bottom of the bus? I think they pushed their own limits this time.

Second, did anyone else catch the blatant product placement with the pregnancy test? ME pulls out the test and tells Catherine "This costs a tenth of what ours does and is just as reliable". Then, after he administers the test, he shows it to the camera. Closeup of the test, showing the result the product name clearly printed across the front. (Of course, it partially failed as a product placement in that I can't remember the name of the test!) Anyone remember them doing anything quite that blatant before?

Posted by: landrumdh

I didn't even catch it when he showed the results I caught it when he was opening the box :P Pretty blantent but you know what it didn't interfere with the story any so I'm not complaining. It's just like people complaining that in Alias they always drive Ford's.

I didn't mind under the bus, I was freaked out by the pickin up the pieces off of the road, YUCK!

Why did the MBZ driver have to be such a nut, it was rather annoying watching for the first few minutes and didn't add anything to the show, he would have gotten the arm in the windshield regardless.

I'm pretty sure it was a "fake" product placement. It appeared to me that it said something along the lines of "HPT" or "TPT" (I don't remember) when the real product is "EPT".

I kinda thought the body was cool, especially the "jigsaw puzzle" on the table.

Posted by: jwjody

I almost didn't make it through the beginning with all the body parts. I said to my roommate they went overboard with the gore factor. I don't know why but even after the gore I didn't enjoy the episode that much. I knew from the beginning that the brother had killed himself. When they showed the flashback of the him saying they were going to be rich pretty much knew he had failed and was trying to cash in on insurance somewhere.

The only interesting thing was finding out Grissom had bought Sarah a Christmas present.

I also thought the brand of home pregnancy test was fake. I don't think it was product placement at all. I do think they were making a commentary on the fact that medical supplies are extremely expensive and often are not superior to what you can buy at Wal-Mart.

I also thought the gore at the beginning was a bit much. It didn't bother me, but I recently had a friend tell me he and his wife quit watching CSI because of the excessive gore so I was a little more sensitive to it and I kept thinking of what he would say if he saw this episode.

Overall I thought the show moved pretty slow. And while I'm sure it is possible, losing 10 hands in a row and the 10th one being a 10-card 21 is about a million to 1 shot.

Posted by: stevenrt

Hmmm, well, I wanted to watch this episode, but the sound dropped out after the first 10 minutes and never returned. Every other channel was fine, but for some reason the sound was absent from CSI.

:D and apparently no one else...

Like was said above...the one thing that got me was the straight losing at the Blackjack table. I mean come on....they showed the hands in sequence, he had some pretty decent hands.

Even an idiot can win at least one hand at BJ. And that final 10 card 21, the odds of that happening....?

I always end up 1x FF through all the 'music while they look for clues' parts. If it looks like someone said something then I'll un-FF. I can watch CSI alot quicker than most other 1 hour shows.

Another intersting thing about Grissom giving the Entymology textbook to Sarah is that she's apparently devoured it, obviously in an effort to gain some knowledge that will impress Grissom.

Dish?

Our local station had a crawl at the bottom of the screen saying that there was a problem with the audio feed being carried by Dish Network and that it was being investigated. Didn't affect me since I'm one of those heathens still on cable ;) .

Hmm... Maybe. I wouldn't have recognized the brand name as fake or not since I doubt I could name the brand of any home pregnancy test. I just thought they made a big deal out of it and couldn't figure out any other reason why.

Yeah, I caught that too. Also interesting was the fact that no one else had gotten one and the reaction shot of Sara when she discovered that fact.

Oh yes, all you Firefly fans of course recognized Gina Torres as the warden, didn't you?

Posted by: tanstaafl

Oh, thought of one more observation... I caught on to the knife stuck in the doorframe early on, as almost the exact same trick was used on an episode of Columbo years ago (with Buddy Hackett as the stabee, of all people).

:D ! Thanks, I just couldn't remember where I 'knew' her from. And I forgot to watch the credits to check.

Posted by: devdogaz

Gina Torres is also currently playing Julia Milliken on 24.

Extra cheese in this episode. What women-in-prison show would be complete without a lesbian triangle, and a deadly attack?

It looked to me like Peterson had the Grissom and Catherine parts switched because of the cheesiness of the situation, and the bad lines he would have had to read.

This show is getting played out. I used to like it. But they seem to stretch a 30 minute show into 60. They spend a minute filming an investigator putting one of those number tags on the ground and taking a picture of it and sitting their just thinking. Less and less dialouge every show, more dead air,and predictable as heck. You know that the first or second person they suspect isn't who did it. It is the person they suspect 10 minutes before the show is over. Since the show has so little dialouge with that droning soundtrack, and they are always investigating in the dark (turn on some lights) I usually fall asleep in the first 20 minutes.

I missed her name in the credits then when they were walking through the prison it was so dark I couldn't get a good look at her face. I thought it was her voice though, so I went back to the credits and there her name was!

I thought the same thing. In fact, Grissom is usually the one that speaks the semi-cheesy joke line right before the opening credits and in this episode it was Catherine. I pointed it out to my wife and she thought the same thing.

Maybe this follows from the last episode where Grissom's getting ready to move on and Catherine will take lead now?

Also, for some reason Grissom was doing the lab work on the knife. He usually lobs that off on someone else.

Okay, you guys spotted Gina Torres (not a hard one, she's not easy to miss).

So I'm the only one who recognized David Marciano (the detective from Due South)?

Looked like a faked product to me, not a placement.

Posted by: Rcrew

Who's David Marciano, and what was his character?

Well, your product placement isn't. The 'product' on the show was Early Signs H.P.T. There is no such pregnancy kit.

I also found a technical error. When looking at the commisary list she said that the victim bought a 20-count box of tampons every month like clockwork. If you pause on the view of the clipboard, every entry was for a 21-count box of tampons.

I'm guessing someone pointed out and they had to do a voiceover change that tampons come in 20 not 21.

Well, as I pointed out earlier I couldn't name a real pregnancy test kit if someone asked me to so I wouldn't know if it was real or not. I'll stand corrected, but it sure as hezmana looked like a product placement.

No no one recognized Gina Torres from Angel (Jasmine)? That's where I remembered her from.

The voice goes out on my television quite a bit, but it's usually when I'm watching a program on HDTV and I don't have DISH, but cable. If I switch it to the non-HD station, the sound is usually there. The problem is if it happens when recording, you have no option but to lose the sound. Sometimes you can put CC on and even if there is no sound, there are words.

I thought I knew him from somewhere. I can't believe I forgot Due South.

I was watching this in High Definition and my wife walked in when they were showing all the body parts. Needless to say, she doesn't want to watch anymore.

Me, too. Not having seen Firefly, that's the character I recognized.

I kept expecting her to start speaking in that soft, swooning voice as Jasmine and all the CSI staff to start smiling and agreeing with everything she said.

Posted by: doom1701

I called the lesbian love triangle thing almost immediately, but I figured that the partner had to be Gina Torres character. Why else bring her on the show? Of course, maybe she'll show up again. :)

I came up with a theory that works about 85% of the time. Look for the first new character introduced after the 30 minute mark. They are the killer almost every time.

All us Alias fans recognized her as Anna Espinosa, first. ;)

(And Helen from Cleopatra 2525, as well as someone I've already forgotten from Hercules and Xena)

Posted by: DreadPirateRob

Recognized her from all 3, thank you very much...

When I first saw her in the ep I said to myself - she gets around...
