Buffy/Angel viewing order?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I haven't seen one full minute of either series, but since they get such rave reviews from fans, I want to start renting them and check them out. Plus, it seems Fox and SciFi have cancelled all the good sci-fi out there.
Anyway, is there a web site out there that lists the viewing order? I know the two series intertwine at certain points and have cross over episodes. I'm sure watching Buffy striaght thru up to season 4 or 5 is a good start, then when does Angel need to be watched for cross overs?

Angel's series doesn't "start" until the 4th season of Buffy. Once you finish Buffy's third season, you can start watching Angel Season 1 in conjunction with Buffy Season 4.
I don't know of a good Angel episode guide (well, except for the one on TVtome, but that's spoiler heavy). The best Buffy guide I've found is at www.buffyguide.com. While that one isn't too spoiler laden, it does list some key plot points.

It'll take a while to watch thru 3+ seasons of Buff, but after that I just want to know basically:
BuffyS4E1-9
AngelS1E10
BuffyS4E10-24
Or however Angel gets interspersed.

I'd suggest alternating episodes.
Buffy S4E1
Angel S1E1
Buffy S4E2
Angel S1E2
At least for the first two seasons of Angel.
However somepeople find this too tedious and will alternate discs instead..
(this is assuming that you are watching the DVDs)

OK, sorry about that. I misinterpreted what you were asking in the first post.
Alternating episodes one by one is the best way to do it. But, always watch the Buffy episode before watching the Angel episode, since the crossplots always start in Buffy and end in Angel. So, Buffy S4E1, then Angel S4E1, then Buffy S4E2, etc....
The crossovers are really only an issue during Buffy S4&5 / Angel S1&2. After that, each show becomes pretty much independent.
Edit: Yeah, what JYoung said.

Thanks, guys!

Wow, you've got Buffy *and* Angel to look forward to. We just caught up on both and are enjoying the last few Angel eps as they air.

If you're looking for a good episode guide for Angel, try the City of Angel web site. They've loads of other stuff too.

May not be the best for buffy but I like it. Also has tons of other shows.

www.televisionwithoutpity.com has great recaps for both shows, and of course, many others.

The TV Tome site will give you the original airdates for the two series. You can use that as a guide for what to watch when.

Don't worry too much about interleaving. If you just want to more easily follow the crossovers, interleaving the shows disc-by-disc (3 or 4 episodes at a time) will be enough to follow.
The crossovers are really rather minor most of the time. Usually just consistent acknowledgement of things/events.

Yeah, there are only about 5 or 6 crossover episodes total and the major ones occur very early during Angel's run.

I pretty much watched the buffy series and then watched angel later on as they came out on dvd and to be honest. I really didnt mind. the stories are 1 big story but able to be split up most of the time.

This is exactly what I do.

I also watched all seasons of Buffy and then watched Anel after the fact. The crossovers are not so involved that the order makes that much difference.
But if you have the option of flip flopping the episodes then go for it

When you get to Buffy Season 7 though, ask us. There is a crossover that didn't work out on TV because of the different channels. So when you start B7/A4, come to the BTVSSOAK.

You really don't even need to bother with that for the first BS4&S5 and AS1&S2 - the new episodes were on back-to-back on the same dates. I've been watching them alternating episode by episode. If you really really don't feel like doing that, I'd at least check tvtome to see when actors from one show did guest spots on the other, you can certainly avoid spoilers that way. You could probably watch mostly disc-by-disc, and just go ep-by-ep when there are actually crossovers.

Welp, I wish I was psychic. I have come down with chicken pox and this week would have been great to watch all the episodes. Now I am homebound and can't go out to rent them. Damnit!
