My friend, who has DirecTV, has finally decided to get Tivo after having me constantly telling him how great it is! :) He was talking to someone at Best Buy that told him he would have to start new service to get the $99 unit, he can't use it for an exisiting account. Is this right? I don't have DirecTV so I can't confirm.

The BB guy was smoking crack. I just went in last weekend and got a 40 hour RCA for $99, and put it on my current account

Zak is correct. Also, Magnolia Hi Fi, if they are near you has been selling them for $79.

I picked up 2 Philips DSR704s ($99/each) today from BestBuy to add to my existing account. No hassle at all (even though on their website they say for new customers only and limit 1 receiver per household). I ordered them on their website and chose to pick them up at the store. This has the added bonus of getting it sooner, and not having to endure the sales person trying to sell me extra stuff.
