At the moment Argos are selling the Masterplug UPS 450VA at Ł59.99

I got one today and these are my first impressions.

Features
1. Four IEC output connectors (two via ups the others just surge suppressed).
2. Telecom surge suppressor sockets and uk adapters.
3. RS232 cable and software.
4. One IEC male / female cable to hook power your PC
5. Normal 13Amp 4 gang socket strip with 1metre lead and IEC plug.
6. Battery run time of 5 - 30 minutes (depends on load)

Positive points
1. The four gang lead is ideal for easy hookup of devices like tivo that have normal 13amp plugs.
2. Unsual design, contains a toroidal transformer.
Size 290 x 90 x 232mm / 11.4 x 3.5 x 9.1 inch

Negatives
1. PC interface is primitive featuring only RS232 contact interface. Thus no detailed status of UPS is availble.
2. Software is so primitive it supports all versions of windows and in the readme mentions for NT4 you will require service pack 4!
3. The manual says "To protect the UPS from power surges and spikes it is recommended to use a surge proteced 13A socket"!

Conclusions.
If Ł60.00 is just in your budget it's not too bad and from Argos you can always take it back.
