Those Star Trek Rocks

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

There seem to be a few Star Trek fans here...

Tivo picked up a couple good Star Trek episodes from the original 60's series. One where he made gunpowder to kill the lizard, and another where they used communicators to create an earthquake.

These episodes seem to take place on the same outside set-- a very familliar stack of rocks. I've heard this is a location somewhere outside of LA, is that true? Does anyone know where this is?

It's the same place where Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey was filmed for Neo's death. I am not too keen of the location, since I am in Philly, but google it and I am sure something will come up.

Lots of TV shows and movies shoot there.

It's called Vasquez Rocks Park and it's about 40 miles north of Los Angeles as you head toward the desert.

It's my understanding that it was shot in Chatsworth Park in the NW San Fernando Valley.

You are .....misunderstood.......
Having been to both places many times, I know it's Vasquez Rocks/

It is Vasquez Rocks... around 40 miles NE of LA. It is a favorite "desert" location and is featured in films, TV shows and commercials since the 50s. The rock formations are interesting, mainly just one centralized location, but offers various shooting angles with vaste desert in the background, and it is close to Hollywood (less expensive to shoot there). Although, other areas are better such as Red Canyons (where the Galactica 1980 location episode "The Return of Starbuck" was filmed).

I've been there several times and even filmed my own amature Super8 film back in the early 80s. The Buck Rogers production team was on location the same day, filming the 2nd season two part episode titled "Journey to Oasis", so I had a chance to meet and talk shop with the director and some of the staff... and shot some 35mm photos for some of the actors and stunt men. One of the "troglodite" aliens didn't like his picture taken though, so I have a cool photo of a cave man looking alien up on the cliff giving me the "finger"! :D

And here I thought it was about "The Return of the Archons" where a rock bounces off Spock's skull with no effect.
