Asus A7V600 BIOS settings (help)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

OK, decided that my old windows 95 PC was getting too slow, so decided to build my own new one, using the following.

AMD Athlon XP3000 333FSB 512 L2 Cache Barton
Asus A7V600 VIA KT600 8x AGP DDR400 Serial ATA Giga LAN/Sound/USB2 ATA133
2 x Crucial 512 DDR400 PC3200 CL=3 Memory Module

the manual doesn't give much help, but hope if some of you here might know.

what settings should I enter for the

CPU Speed (currently set to manual)
CPU Frequency multiple (currently set to 13x)
CPU External frequency (currently set to 133/33)

reason I ask, is that it actually seems to be slower than my old Pentium 166.

you need FSB to be 166

then the rest should sort it's self out.

thanks, just changed it.

options are BTW,if it makes much difference

CPU Speed- Manual, 1300MHz,1733,2167,2600
CPU Freq multiple - 5 - 22.5x in 0.5 inc
CPU Ext freq, to many to list but set to 166/33

The settings should be:-

FSB - 166MHz
Multiplier - 13x

The speed should then be listed as 2167Mhz.

You should also check to make sure your had disks and CD drives etc... are running in UDMA mode as that is not the default for some versions of the operating system. Having it set incorrectly can have a dramatic effect on hard disk performance.

yep.

if i set it to cpu speed 2167, the fsb gets set to 166, multiplier 13.

i guess the manual setting is so that I can overclock the processor.

main HD is a single SATA, don't need the raid backup option (i hope)

thanks again.
