I can't watch the portions of the show with the bugs but my wife has a steel stomach so I just look thru the tivo board while she is watching. Yea, I admit it!

What do the animal rights people think about eating live bugs? I guess they aren't technically animals but you get the drift. And don't those things crawl around in you? ewww

Posted by: Tracy

Once you chew them up they don't crawl around anymore!

Did you see what they ate tonight? Ugh, much worse than bugs.

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
live snails

(1) Telling people to stop eating insects does not upset the middle/upper class.
(2) Telling people to stop making clothing from insects does not upset the middle/upper class.
(3) Telling people to stop killing insects does not make you appear to be more compassionate.
(4) Nobody can stand roaches running around in their house.

Therefore, nobody protests killing/eating insects. :D

I don't see how one has anything to do with the other.

put another way: do the things they eat on there have a right to live or can we kill them just for our pleasure? i guess you can liken it to everything else living on this earth we kill. i was just wondering if the people that care about animal test, minks for fur, steer for beef, chicken for chicken etc thought it was just as bad them killing bugs etc on FF? or if the bugs are of such a different 'animal' that they differentiate and it's ok to kill them at will for the american's viewing pleasure?

Note that most environmental campaigns use cute animals though there are only a tad bit over 200 Pup Fish on the planet and they are all located in a deep cavrine in Death Valley CA. So the campaigns usually have nothing to do with the reality of what needs to be preserved.

I think the animal rights people operate the same way. I have never heard of a protest against the plunging of various live shell fish into boiling water in order to cook them. I think the lower life forms don't get the attention. We can identify with how cattle are brought to slaughter because they are mammels but don't care for the lower life forms.

Animal Rights people are only interested in saving cute fluffy animals. Eat all the bugs and snails you want.

It sort of bothers me, but then again I'm an atypical animal rights person-I actually eat meat on occassion, have differing views on animal rights than most and am not very vocal about my feelings. What actually bothers me more than anything is when they make them root around in cattle brains and spinal fluid, which has happened at least once. That's a great way to contract the disease that's better known as mad cow disease and which I can't remember the name of this early.

In cows, the disease is BSE (bovine spongiform encephalitis). In humans, its vCJD (variant Creutzfeld-Jakob disease).

Yep. It's the "save the whales, screw the tuna" mentality.
