I bought Jeff Keegan's book "Hacking TiVo" and used the included disk to hack both my SA TiVos. It's a great book, btw. It's really nice having everything all one place, and not having to search here for 1/2 an hour to find an answer. It's available here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/A...9039098-0488008
Here's the thing. One of the boxes I had already hacked. I used Steve Jenkins hack guide to get started. http://tivo.stevejenkins.com/network.html I had installed mfs_ftp and Tivo control station as well as making a number of aliases, etc. Well, once I installed Keegan's hack package, my .profile stopped working. So, I lost my PATH and several aliases. Also, I'm also not sure if my .bash_logout is working or not. Other than adding all those lines to Keegan's hackscallfromrc.sysinit file, what's the easiest way to get my .profile back. And how do I know if my .bash_logout is working?
Aside from those minor problems, anybody know why he organized things the way he did? Like, why did he make the root directory to /var/hack/root? I imagine it has something to do with the way a linux computer is organized, but as someone who knows no linux, it is a mystery to me.
