Yes, when don't bother with CallShield

Well yes you can identify withheld callers but only if they call you on your new callshield number and not your exisiting home number.

This also appiles to nearly all the other features as well e.g. record the calls.

In many ways this product is like yac http://www.yac.com which is free to setup (I think).

Of course calls to your new callshield number are not at standard rates (BT 'K' Rate - 32p per min peak)!

It's also described as a "number for life" but if you dont get 5 mins of calls in a 90 day period (after the first year) your lifetime number will be terminated!

It does sound pants but presumably you could give your 'new' number to people you expect to call when you don't want them to - car salesmen, utility providers on the upsell etc. and that way you'll be able to identify them at least?
Don't think I'll be bothering though :)

don't forget that if you plan to record the calls, then you have to leagally inform the people who phone you that they are being recorded.

Answering machines that record your calls usually add a beep every 30 seconds or so to warn you. So if you're wondering why the 'phone keeps beeping at you when you order your Indian takeaway ...

Nah, that's not 'cos they're recording. That's 'cos they usually use a payphone and these also beep every so often after being answered. Honest :)
