Frozen at starting up

I have a series 1 TiVo (4 hours best quality if I remember....I upgraded it a while ago) that I've had for about 2 years now. I got back from Spring Break today and turned back on my TiVo (I had left it in standby mode so it didn't record tons of stuff while I was gone). When I first turned it back on everything worked fine but after about an hour or so it totally froze. I left it sit for a good 10-20 minutes and nothing changed. I then unplugged the power to restart the TiVo and its now freezing at the screen that says "Your PTV Receiver is starting up. Please wait a moment....". It seems like one of the HD's (I'm guessing the primary one that came with it) might be fried or something. I haven't tried hooking it up to my computer yet and testing it and everything since I need to go out and get another star head screwdriver to open it up again but I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and if so how I can go about fixing it. If its as simple as replacing a HD, thats no big issues, but I dont have an image of the TiVo HD before I upgraded it so does anyone know how I can go about obtaining one if I have to replace the HD? Also, as another question, if my TiVo is beyond repair, my roommate and I are going to go buy a new series 2 TiVo but dont want to spend too much money but want to be able to record a decent amount of stuff, any recommendations (I'm somewhat warry about upgrading another TiVo straight off after what is happening with this one).

Mostly likely one of the hard drives is dead. You'll need to figure out which one by pulling them out of the Tivo, installing them in a PC, then running the disk manufacturer's diagnostic utility (e.g. PowerMax for Maxtor/Quantum drives).

Once you figure out which drive is bad you'll need to replace it and reimage. You can buy image files here http://www.ptvupgrade.com/products/instantcake/

Do you know of any place where I can get the PowerMax utility besides from Maxtor? I have gone on their website and when I agree to the license agreement I get a 404 error....talk aboug great site design.

How strange. PowerMax is a Maxtor product, so good luck finding a mirror.

It did work until quite recently, it's not just a site design issue.

It seems to be working now at

http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/downloads/powermax.htm

But here's another source I found via Google

The pages are working, but when you click 'I agree', you get a 404 for this page: http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/do...es/powermax.exe
