How do I replace my A drive if I have added a B drive previously

Hello All !

New to this upgrade stuff so this may be a simple question.

I have a Phillips DirecTV Tivo which originally had a single 40gig drive. A while back I added an additional 120gig drive giving me 135hours.

Now it looks like the original A: drive is on its last legs (making a rather annoying high pitch noise). So before it goes down I would like to replace it.

My question is this.....

How do I replace the A: drive (with a larger drive) but keep the contents of the original A: drive (season passes, recordings, etc) ? Will I have to do anything to the B: drive ?

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Hinsdale's instructions (see Hinsdale's post at the top of this forum) cover this scenario. Follow the procedure for upgrading a two drive Tivo, including the portion to backup and restore your existing recordings.

The procedure is to use dd to clone the A drive on to a replacement (use conv=noerror, sync as the drive is in questionable condition) and then mfsadd to expand into the extra space.

Ideally you'd increase the size of your swap partition. See the third post of the Fixes thread above for a way to do this.
