Eh, he's OK. Gotta admit I wanted Sean Bean.

I'm just a casual Dr. Who fan. I hadn't realized there have been so many different actors.

He probably wasn't even up for the role, but as a Buffy fan, I would've been interested to see Tony Head (Rupert Giles from Buffy) as a Doctor. Oh, well.

Dag nab it. I was hoping for Alan Davies (of Jonathan Creek fame). Ah well.

Kylie Minogue wasn't available?! :D

That was one Doctor out of, jeez, probably nearly a dozen by this point. Each has a different "look and feel."

The subject of this thread really confused me until I got to about the third post.

I don't recall who he played in eXistenZ, but even if I were to look it up, I wouldn't be able to match it. (Movie made me think about Videodrome.)

I used to watch as a kid. Completely forgot about it until last year I rented The Ark In Space and loved it all over again.
I am sorely tempted to go buy some of the DVD's but am not sure I want to invest the $$ required.
Does anyone know if Dr. Who shows on any channels that I could Tivo?

Hmm, some of his pictures I found, he does actually remind me of Tom Baker quite a bit (maybe with a bit or Pertwee mixed in).
I look forward to this.
I love the Doctor (MPT has been rerunning from the beginning and some episodes that I have never seen have been on; they are almost thru Troughton).

Me too! I was thinking, "New doctor who named WHAT?"

I can't believe I missed this thread! I guess I'm happy about the choice. I think he'll do well. I am thrilled that it is Russel Davies' baby.
Digdug: buy the DVDs! Many of them have mad extras.

PBS station broadcast Dr. Who almost every saturday Night (skipped when they have any specials) Show Time 11pm or later.

Sorry, he was the only Doctor I saw with any regularity. I missed the earlier Doctors and was never in an area showing Dr. Who with the later Doc's. So Tom Baker will always be the prototypical Doctor for me.

He is for a lot of people. A friend knitted a scarf in high-school for another friend. (+2 to anyone who can guess which crowd I hung out with...)

My first comp-sci teacher in college used to wear a Tom Baker Dr. Who scarf. Of course, he nailed me as the geekiest amongst the geeks since I knew where the scarf came from.
If I wore scarves I would of had my wife make me one years ago since she's a great knitter.

Also, when PBS stations would buy a run of any Doctor Who, it would also come with a run of the Tom Baker episodes. In Nebraska, it was an endless cycle of third, fourth, fifth, fourth, and then repeating the cycle with the third again.
They dropped Doctor Who and all sci-fi before airing any other episodes. Right now the closest source is Iowa, and Gretna's the closest location to Lincoln that can pick it up I can find (signal strength drops sharply there). Nebraska PBS seems to only consider educational programming now.

I still think that Rowan Atkinson was the best Doctor ever....

When?

I agree with the purchase of the DVD's---- Tom Baker being my favorite, the extras included, with the Commentary by Actors and Director/Producers is well worth it. I have both the "Key to Time" series and Double Disk set of the "Talons of Weng Chang"
I will be finishing the "Pyramid of something" recording Part #4 this saturday night. I have recorded the "Planet of Evil" Parts 1-4 off PBS station.
I cant wait to see more about the new Who.

No Doctor Who in my area. Wish BBC america would play some - even at 4 a.m., my TiVo doesn't care!
Have to look into DVDs. I'm yearning for my childhood now....
