If you have an added B drive, can you revert back to your original A without restoring from backup?

No. You will need an image of the software for that model. It doesn't have to be a backup of your specific software, just software for your specific model. The A drive can only work with that B drive once it has been added.

If you can make a compressed backup off the pair (the B drive needs to be working, but it doesn't need to be working all that well), you can restore that back to the A drives.

The chances are your recordings won't survive this, though.

Hi. I just got the GSOD on my 2 drive (upgraded) HDR212. I don't know yet whether it's the A drive (factory) or the B drive (100GB). I have a spare 100GB lying around. I take it I need an image for the HDR212 (I never did backup and don't care about the recordings). Can someone provide help?

The GSOD is a repair utility, not a sign the TiVo is dead.

But yes, you either need to find a backup online or get the PTVUpgrade InstantCake recovery CD.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I've had the GSOD for a few days now :-(

Anyway, can someone help me find said image?
