I have an xp system that I am going to use to do the backup of my tivo drive. In the instructions, it says that the tivo backup will be copied to your root c drive after completing.... but isnt it a fat file that is getting backed up?

what should i do?

See our upgrade instructions:

They have a workaround for this situation. Just be sure to check the right options.

If you follow the Hinsdale instructions, the NTFS partition would mount, but read-only.

So, use Drive Manager (or get a DOS boot disk from bootdisk.com and use FDISK and then FORMAT) to make a FAT partition on the upgrade drive. 2Gb would be plenty, there's no need to format the whole drive.

Use the upgrade drive instead of the Windows disk for the backup phase, then use Windows to copy the backup to the C: drive.

As you can mount the C: drive read-only from the TiVo boot disk, you can now go back to following Hinsdale.
