Best Simpsons Ever

WHat in your opinion is the best Simpsons ever? Mine would be the one where Homer thinks bart is gay. The gay steel mill was great. My favorite line is when Moe tells Homer that he should give up on Bart since he is gay and should focus on Lisa. Homer then says Lisa is a vegitarian and Moe askes Homer if he and Marger are cousins.

This is an impossible question, but if I have to chose I will go with Homer the Heretic. That is when he skips Church and has the best day of his life.

One of my favorite lines: "Me flunk English? That's unpossible!"
One of my favorite exchanges: "Dad! You just shot the zombie Flanders!" "He was a ZOMBIE?!?"
Posted by: weaver
My favorite is "Homer Bad Man" the one where Homer is accused of grabbing the babysitter's butt.

Agreed

My favorite is "22 Short Films About Springfield". They have lots of little plots with several lesser characters. Bumblebee Man tells about his day (en espaņol!), Lisa gets gum stuck in her hair, the really tall guy in a tiny car, Cletus, Seamore and the Superintendant and several others. :D

Man, that's a tough question. I'm not sure I could pick an absolute favorite.
If forced to give one as an answer, at the moment I'm thinking of the one when Homer eats the blowfish that allegedly hasn't been cut properly and he thinks he's going to die. The best part, when he decides to sit down with the Good Book...on tape (read by Larry King).

A couple of my favorites:
- Homer gains weight and goes on disability
- Flaming Moe's

The one where Bart sells his soul.
"In the garden of Eden, Baby...." :D

Mr. Plow :D

Yes, thats the one where barney does his short film...."don't cry for me because I am already dead"

Rock & Roll Fantasy Camp makes me laugh so damn hard.
Someone mentioned "Mr Plow" I nominate that for (co-winner) of best Simpons song ever, tied with "Simpsons, Meet the Simpsons"

My favorite is one of the real old ones, if only because of one scene that still makes me LOL whenever I see it. The scene is where they end up at Dr. Monroe's office for the family therapy. That scene with the electro-shock buttons cracks me up every time.
There's bettter overall episodes and funnier individual exchanges. But no one scene scene stands out to me as much as that one for sustained laughter.

I believe that episode you refer to is the one where The Critic comes into town and Springfield has it's film festival.
One of my favorites is "Bart The Murderer" where Bart goes to work for Fat Tony.
And when they get caught they say Bart is the leader of the crime syndicate.
And then Doogie Howser plays Bart in the movie.
"Lionel Hutz, court-appointed attorney. I'll be defending you on the
charge of... [reads the deposition] Murder One! Wow! Even if
I lose, I'll be famous!"

I'll put my word in for "Trilogy of Error," the one where you see the events from three different characters' perspectives (Homer, Lisa, Bart) and none of it really makes sense until you see the last character's perspective.
The tears-in-the-eyes-moment-from-laughing-so-hard was Lisa running into the wrong school (West Springfield instead of Springfield as I recall) and barging in on a French class. When all the kids laugh at her for doing something so stupid ("ha hah ha ha"), the teacher shoots them all a look and says "En francais", whereupon they all start laughing with a condescending French accent ("ho hoh ho ho").
It's also hard to go wrong with Life in the Fast Lane, where Marge almost has the affair with Jacques, the bowling guy.

Sigh... I miss Phil Hartman's characters. :(

My favorite overall episode is "Dancin' Homer," the one where Homer becomes the mascot for the Springfield Isotopes and eventually gets sent up to the majors in Capital City.
But my favorite act is the first act of "Marge's Fear of Flying," which may be the funniest 10 minutes in the history of American television. "The old sugar-me-do"..."It's Raining Men"...Guy Incognito..."crisitunity"..."Enjoy your death trap, ladies!"..."You flyboys crack me up!"..."the freak states"...and much, much more. Unfortunately, the other two-thirds of this episode are nowhere near as good, but really, how could they be?

Not necessarily my favorite, but one that really stands out to me is the one with the "Maison Derrierre." I love that Bart goes to work there, I love when Grandpa walks in and turns right around and walks out, I love the song at the end ("We put the spring in Springfield").
It's a great episode.

I'm partial to the episodes when Santa's Little Helper falls in love and sires many many greyhound pups. Homer putting fresh newspaper down on the floor over the old, Maggie wondering why she has to wear the flea collar and Burns singing "See My Vest." Breaks me up every time.

Actually, you're confusing the one with the Springfield Film Festival (where Jon Lovitz's "The Critic" cameos) with the 22 Short Films episode.
Oh, and my vote is for "Marge Simpson in Screamin' Yellow Honkers".. better known as "Marge gets the Canyonero". Some of my favorite Homer quotes are in that episode.
"I've seen plays that were more exciting than this. Honest to god! Plays!"
"Wait kids, I know just what to do..... JUMANJI!"
"Does anything from the movies actually work?"

I've got three...the one where Homer moves to the new community to run a nuclear power plant for Hank Scorpio, who turns out to be a Bond-level supervillian. "Homer, if you need to go back to Springfield I understand. If you could kill someone on the way out it would really help me a lot."
Then there's Homer vs. the 18th Amendment, when Homer becomes a bootlegger. Just watched that the other day on St. Patty's day and there's a lot of stuff in there that makes me laugh, especially the line where Marge asks Homer where he's going with a bunch of bowling balls (unbeknownst to Marge) filled with booze, and Homer responds with, "Marge, I'm not going to lie to you. Well, see ya." That and the fact that throughout the episode he keeps saying, "If we don't come back, avenge our deaths."
And the last one is Treehouse of Horrors VI (the one in 3D). The 3D skit is great (Bart: "Well, things hit a snag when the universe collapsed on itself. Dad, however, remained cautiously optimistic." Homer: "Craaaaaaaaap."), but the one with the advertisements that come to life has one of the best 30-second scenes in the history of the show. After Homer steals the giant donut, the donut shop guy comes to Homer's place. Homer sees him and says, "Oh, uh, Flanders has it." When he walks away to destroy Flanders' house, Homer says to himself, "He came to life...good for him." Then, after the donut shop guy discovers that Flanders doesn't have his donut, he goes back to Homer, and Homer responds angrily, "I told you Flanders has it...or Moe...go kill Moe." Great stuff.
But the best single line was when Lisa's summer friends put seashells all over Homer's car, and Homer comes out and just shouts at the top of his lungs, "Sweet merciful crap." Great line.

So tough to pick a best one. A lot of the ones I really like have already been mentioned. The softball episode cracks me up a lot as well, especially the Burns/Mattingly interactions (which took place before Steinbrenner went psycho on Mattingly).

An absolutely impossible question, but ...
I'll nominate Treehouse of Horror V (The Shinning/Time and Punishment/Nightmare Cafeteria). Hil-freakin'-arious.

Wasn't it in the Tomacco episode where the locals were actually using an elephant to measure whether the corn was ready to pick?
Classic.

Yep, that's the one. :)
"When there's nothing else to believe in, believe in Hope."
"Ewww! This tastes like Grandma!"
"Hey, wait a minute.... it DOES taste like Grandma!"

Another classic subtle joke is when Homer makes Flanders his video dating tape, and films Ned in the shower, notice that the blur goes down well below Ned's knees!!
I think my favorite complete episode just has to be the film festival one... too many fall of the chair funny moments:
The critic belching so loud it sets off car alarms
Barney: "My name is Barney and I'm an alcoholic" Girl Scout: "this is a girl scout meeting" Barney: "is it really, or can you just not admit you have a problem?"
"are they saying BOO or BOOURNS?"
Krusty: "let's just say it moved me... to a better neighborhood!!!"

So many choices.
One of the Halloween episodes where Homer keeps going back in time with the magic toaster, and altering the future. Maggie axes Groundkeeper Willey, removes her pacifer, and says in a James Earl Jones voice: "This is indeed a disturbing universe!" And of course the Ned Flanders universe, where "negative Nellies" are sent to "re-Neducation" centers. Homer runs out on his perfect universe because Marge didn't know what donuts were, only to have it rain donuts after Homer leaves. Homer killing the dinosaurs by sneezing: "this is gonna cost me!"
Etc.
And that's not even the whole episode, just one segment of a very good Halloween episode. A very tightly-written segment indeed.

doesn't get much better then "Homer's Enemy" (go Grimey!)

Mine is the Treehouse of Horror with the Shining and prob my all time favorite is when Homer becomes the Beer Baron...classic...

I think my favorite has to be the one where Lisa gives up eating meat and Homer has the BBQ; can't recall the title.
The beginning with all the different nationalities of Flanders (Mexican Flanders: "Buenos do-di-dias!", Lord Thistlewick Flanders!), the filmstrip with Troy McClure (Ralph:"When I grow up, I'm going to bovine university"),
"So you're not going to eat bacon, pork chops or ribs?"
"Dad, they all come from the same animal."
"Oh sure Lisa, some magical animal."
:D
