Stargate storyline error?

Hello everyone. I was watching a rerun of the original StarGate movie yesterday on USA. I'm a big SG-1 fan, so I'm pretty familiar with the universe. I noticed something that makes me go hmm... Mainly, where exactly in the universe is Abidos (the very first planet visited).
Now according to the movie it's in another galaxy. If you watch carefully, the very first time they're dialing the gate, when the gate operators are tracking the location of the MALP, they distinctly say, it's in another galaxy (Kararan or something like that). Then Catherine distinctly says that it's basically on the other side of the known universe.
Flash forward to SG-1. While I don't recall specifically if they ever discussed the location of Abidos, it's been kind of stated that the Stargate can only dial coordinates in our own galaxy. There's the first episode where O'Neil gets a brain dump of all the ancients knowledge. He had to jury rig a power source to get the gate to dial 8 chevrons in order to travel to another galaxy and hook up with Thor's race.
So am I missing something, or this is just a goof? (And I'm horribly embarrassed now because I just realized I know about this show in order to talk about silly small technicalities).

There are differences between the movie and TV show. This sounds like one of them...

Actually in the series, they state that the only reason they could dial Abydos was that it was one of the closest gates to earth. They had to rig up a stellar drift compensation to correct coordinates further from earth because the target stars had moved far enough to screw up the targeting.
IIRC that is something that a functioning DHD does, it receives and stored stellar drift updates. These don't change the dialing address of the target planet, just modify the coordinates to address link slightly.

Basically.. they did a "pretty good job" turning a movie into a series .. ya gotta tweak things here and there .. it happens.
