Wonderfalls - 3/26 Spoilers & new night?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Another good episode. Started off a bit slowly, but had some excellent story and comedic elements. Funny but tasteful digs on "religion". I think we now know that the wax lion may actually be Him, with a big "H".
As they rolled next week's preview, they announced an "All new Wonderfalls on its new night...THURSDAY." That works for us...right after Survivor.
Could Fox actually be trying to keep this show alive by moving it out of the Friday night death-slot?? Hope so...

I agree on all points. EXCELLENT episode. I laughed out loud multiple times and chuckled most others... This is such a well written show. I REALLY hope FOX doesn't kill it.
I also heard the Thurs. slot annoucement. Thank goodness. Although I do think, if treated well, it would be a great companion to Joan of Arcadia.
PS Thank Wax Lion that it finally (after only three episodes I know) snowed in Niagara Falls! :)

...but the next Wonderfalls does NOT appear in TiVo the guide. Recent announcement?
I'll have to check the guide again next week to be sure we don't miss the next ep!
Posted by: cwoody222
Yes, there was no mention of this today on Zap2It or FutonCritic so I definately think this was a last minute thing.

I stand corrected:

Still liking the show a lot.
I loved the line, "We're tickled that you decided to go to the Lord for help. We just prefer it to be our Lord."

With 3 TiVo's I failed to have this show record. Could someone tell me what happened?

My SA is still showing the next episode on Friday (4/2).
Definitely something to keep an eye on next week.

This was an enjoyable episode, and you can tell that the actors had alot of fun making it. I watched it with a buddy who had never seen it, and he really liked it as well. I was extremely lucky to catch it... my TiVos are boxed up ready to sell/move and Fox had pushed the time on the program to midnight, and we were channel surfing and happened to catch a promo saying it was coming up.
The twist at the end was perfect. The priest saying "I'm a deadbeat dad!" as if it were a miraculous thing. I also loved the viewmaster transitions between scenes. :)

You were trying to record it on all three?

No only setup to record on one. But still with 3 TiVo's I shouldn't have been as careless in setting up this SP.

D'oh! I thought you were wondering "what happened" to cause all three Tivos to fail. You were wondering what happened in the episode. Sorry, I was totally dense!
I've been reading the help forum too much lately!

But to run against the Apprentice? Bad move. Although I think there are only 2 more prerecorded episodes, then the live finale of the Apprentice. So if Fox doesn't summarily cancel it, Wonderfalls may be OK. Certainly, almost anything's better than Friday.
Good episode. I thought it was my favorite of the first three. This show keeps getting better and better.

I think this episode was a little more like the first episode than the second... which is a good thing in my book. I was a bit nervous after the second episode that it may not stay as quirky, but it has returned to form (at least mostly). I loved the nun in the barrel :D That was great! She had a whole little home set up.

At least on Friday it didn't have much competition. CSI will crush it into oblivion, I'm afraid. :( And here in the Twin Cities, I'm sure nobody knows the program even exists! It's been aired only once (I think) in it's normal timeslot. Sports has pushed nearly every broadcast to midnight or later. At least that means it's almost a moot point to move it.
Here's hoping for a good DVD set, ala Firefly. I wonder if Fox was thinking that all along for this series? Do a token run, then put it to DVD and hope to at least break even. I bet the Wonderfall DVD presses are whirring as I write this.

Unfortunately, this change caused an unresolvable scheduling conflict here even with the two tuners on the DTivo. :( it's the first time I have run into this in 3 years. I record CSI and ER. Well, CSI isn't a problem it will share the other tuner with Wonderfalls. It was NBC and ER that caused the problem. Goofy NBC and their screwed up scheduling set ER's start time at 9:59. Suddenly, instant conflict.
So, I ended up cancelling out my Season Pass recording of ER and entering a manual time/channel recording for NBC from 10-11. What a pain in the butt.

Wonderfalls is moving opposite CSI? Awww crap! :-(
I've had TiVo for so long that I don't even know what day and time most shows air -- CSI included. This is going to be a problem...

As trainman, my favorite thing about this episode was the supposed Niagara Falls, New York, train station, which had a departure board filled with trains going to Windsor, Ottawa, and Montreal, had the train times listed on the 24-hour clock, and had "Welcome to Union Station" at the bottom of the board in both English and French...all things one might expect to see at Union Station in Toronto, where those scenes were actually filmed. :D

Because Miss Match never came back, its current time slot was better than Thursday as everyone else has already pointed out.
I think Fox took three major risks this year.
The OC - Critically hated, but summer audience gave great buzz. Will stick around next year.
Arrested Development - Critcally loved, but people don't get it (prefer simpler comedy). I can't believe TV Land went ahead and gave an award to this show. This show will only be renewed a la Sports Night.
Wonderfalls - Network got scared and didn't roll out the show in the fall. People not interested in watching the show for ratings purposes. This show will only be renewed if it is cheap/profitable enough (Canadian production).
The problem is that the better time slots for Fox shows are taken by Idol.
Here are time slots I think Fox should try out for Arrested or Wonderfalls: Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday at 8pm.
Interestingly, I don't think it is Fox's fault for Arrested and Wonderfalls not being watched. If you look at how well Joan and Simpsons, it appears to be that available audience is just not interested (including TiVo viewers).

I do hope Wonderfalls is cheap enough to stay. The Friday timeslot is a killer, though. If they do bring it back I'd like to see it at 8pm Wed before The OC. Until Idol returns, that is. When Idol is back, I'd move it to Mondays. Thurs. and Fri. are bad.
I would keep Arrested Development on Sundays. Their comedies usually perform well there and it's a good match to Malcolm. Why people aren't watching, I have no idea.
PS Thanks Trainman - I was wondering where that was filmed. I certainly knew no train station in NF, NY looked like that!

[Sister] Katrina had a certain Frances-McDormand-ness to her... but, boy are all those accents heavily Canadian! Much stronger than mine or most people's around this part of the country!
Posted by: ClutchBrake
Was the train station the same one used in X-Men? Sure looked like it to me.

Was X-Men filmed in Toronto? (Don't have the DVD, can't check the credits)

As I recall, part of it, yes.

Yep.

I also liked this episode! I agree that it should be moved to Mondays....put it in the old Ally McBeal timeslot. It has the same sort of offbeat comedy that that show had. Thursday against CSI and The Apprentice would just be killing it.
Posted by: cwoody222
Looks like the move to Thursdays is permanent.

Oh well, it was good while it lasted....bye bye Wonderfalls :(

So, when does my Tivo learn about this change?
Posted by: jennstall
I think it's a pretty good fit with Tru Calling which against all odds appears to be likely to run a whole season so I'm looking forward to the change.

It's in my Guide Data now, although it hasn't made it to the Now Playing list yet...I'm guessing it will be all set (for me, at least) by morning.

God knows we need SOMETHING worthwhile to watch on Monday night. My TiVo is sitting idle on Mondays - the worst night of TV! Although Saturday is a close second....

I hated this episode, until the end, which I thought was kinda neat. But I am not a fan of religious themed shows, so maybe that's it. The concept is still good and I like the quirkyness, but hopefully they will write better episodes.
About the train station, I was curious about that, because the station looked like a smaller version of Grand Central Station in NYC and I thought perhaps they filmed it there. Interesting to know that it's Toronto.

Mine didn't get it until this morning (when I forced an update) even though I forced an update last night.
I was getting worried!

Well, as the saying goes, I've bit the bullet. I moved Wonderfalls ahead of CSI in my Season Pass Manager.
Guess I'll have to find out if the ol' VCR still works ...

Actually, the Thursday night encore of the premiere episode actually beat out the first run of the episode on Friday night. They anticipate that it will continue to do better on Thursday night.
Not to mention - no matter what it's up against on Thursday, anything is better than the Friday Night Death Slot.

Well I can't record it cause I'm recording the Apprentice then.. sucks. I do hope they replay it at a different time..

The apprentice re-runs on CNBC...not sure when, but it does re-run. IF you like Wonderfalls, you could record it then. That's what we're doing.
