Before I upgrade - Do I have a bad Tivo?

Hi All,

I just received a refurbished S1 (Phillips) Tivo I bought off ebay, I intend to upgrade it with a TurboNet card and the oztivo image (I'm in New Zealand). As I haven't yet received the turbonet card I decided to plug it in and have a play with it as it is.. It booted up fine but had no video input, I went to the recorder connection setup and changed it to composite but the status was "No video", I double-checked that the video input was ok by plugging it direct into the TV but still couldn't get the Tivo to recognize it.. I then connected my digital video camera to the S-Video input and changed the tivo to s-video but still got "No Video".. finally (after several resets) I tried "guided setup" but being in NZ I got stuck at the first dialup.

My question is: Do you think the "no video" problem indicates a bad Tivo (broken video inputs) or is this something to do with the Tivo initially being setup for RF input and needing to run and complete guided setup to enable the other inputs?

Any advice will be much appreciated as I don't want to go thru the whole upgrade procedure on a dead Tivo!

TIA! Bruce

You didn't specifically mention it, so I better ask ..... is your video source NTSC video or PAL video? US Tivo's can only handle NTSC video sources.

Hi there, I went ahead and performed the upgrade and it all works now, so I'm a happy camper! :D

fyi, we do use PAL in NZ but the problem I was having was with the composite and s-video inputs.
