Is it me, or is 90% of Trump's dialogue "looped" on The Apprentice?

It really bugs me.
Especially in "The Boardroom". I mean, obviously they edit the crap out of those scenes, but does he flub his lines that often? Or is he just not verbose enough for Burnett?
Anyone else notice this?

I noticed it too. In fact, you can tell who's getting fired from the short interview he gives at the top of the show.
I think its Donald's the lack of lines that is the problem. To me, he does not seem to be very quick on his feet.

It's not you. It is very obvious... the whole sound of his voice changes and the background ambient sounds cut out as well.

I think I read somewhere that the boardroom actually lasts over 2 hours. They edit it down to the 10 minutes we see.

Are you saying that The Donald is "loopy"?
I haven't watched that show or any reality show for that matter. :)
Oh, I take that back a bit. I have watched a couple of Extreme Makeover: The Home Edition.

You're right. It's dubbed over. I figure The Donald might be a bit...rambly. He seems to like to talk about himself a lot so I'm wondering if they edited him to be more concise.
Then again, I'm finding the dubbing to be a very unenjoyable part of most reality shows lately-they seem to be doing it more and more.

I assumed that they edit the scene together how they want it, then they get him to record some appropriate voice-overs. Or they just take excerpts from other parts of the tape and dub it in where they want it.

I agree that they dub a lot on Apprentice and to some extent on Survivor (mostly Jeff during challenges). I think they use it to explain away rules or other items that would otherwise cause confusion to the television audience where they don't have the tape to put it in to show they storyline. Or, to use a castmember to explain away some rules or challenge (which they also do a lot instead of the dub).
I can see them asking during a candid, "Okay, can you explain the whole challenge or situation that we just told you or saw back to us so that we can record it to show after the commercial break."

FYI, "looped" would mean he repeated the same phrase over and over again, like a record skipping. There is obviously none of that. (insert bad joke here)
The sound editing on this show is horrible, I mentioned that after the first episode. They could definitely make the overdubs less noticeable. I can't understand why it's so sloppy. I guess they think we don't care or we're too dense to notice.

Perhaps they didn't think the show would take off like it would, so they didn't care to spend the time to do it, or Donald didn't care enough to go and recreate it better. He most likely is more concerned about running his empire than better dubbing for a tv show.

I read that The Donald originally was only supposed to spend a few hours a week taping for the show. But he is such a perfectionist that he ended up spending 20-30 hours per week. He couldn't relinquish control and wanted everything to be just right. That would explain all the overdubbing. He probably just keeps talking and talking to the camera and they obviously can't show the tape of him just talking but there might be a good audio clip they can take and play over some other video.

Good God! I could not imagine being a contestant if this is true! You figure you'd be grilled for an hour, then you wait for thirty minutes or so, then you get grilled again for 30 minutes and maybe get kicked out!
What a world of hurt.

That's my theory. I can totally see Trump talking on and on and on about one thing or another that at least some of us don't care about.

No looping/ADR is right
* ADR [Automated Dialog Replacement] - In cases where the production audio is too noisy, or otherwise unusable (bad line reading, airplane fly-by, etc.) the Dialog Editor will "cue" the line for ADR. This means replacing that line or lines of dialog using the Automated process of Dialog Replacement. This process takes place on the ADR Stage, a specialized recording studio where the actor can record lines in sync with the picture.
* Once a replacement line of dialog has been recorded, the Dialog or ADR Editor will check the sync carefully, editing the take if necessary to precisely match it to the picture, and prepare it for the Mixing Stage. This process is also known as "looping".
I agree the sound editing could be a little better with the budget they have. I love the episode when they included the construction noise in the boardroom just to show Trump is the boss when they would normally looped it because they do on everything else.

Looping: Dialogue replacement. Sometimes called dubbing. Also called "ADR" or "EPS."

I stand corrected, although I don't understand why someone would use the term "looping" to describe dialog replacement. From the page you linked:
quote:
Loop
A piece of track which has been joined at its ends to form a continuous band. When played, it will go around in a circle until stopped providing a nice continuous sound.
That's what I think of as looping.
EDIT: Okay, I found how the term originated:
quote:
Looping originally involved recording an actor who spoke lines in sync to "loops" of the image which were played over and over along with matching lengths of recording tape.
Interesting.

I just like it when Trump uses the word "huge" because he pronounces it "yooge." It always makes me split a gut.

OT (sorry): I laugh my ass off every time Paulie Sr. says "idears"
Posted by: 5thcrewman
I crack up every time the Donald says "Helloooo"
I think he was drinking in the helicopter on his way to the Troubled Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City because he sounded a little slurry when he first went inside.

Hmmm....that reminds me of that Curb Your Enthusiasm where Larry keeps calling Hugh, one of the other restauranteurs, "Yough." The guy corrects him. Of course by the end of the episode they are at each others' throats and Larry keeps saying "F*** HHHHugh"

"Yooge" is apparently the NYC pronounciation - I use it as well and was never aware that it was funny or unusual. I am constantly teased by non - NY'ers about it as well!

Or he might just have been drunk on his "Ego Walk" through the casino. I've never seen a "celebrity" call so much attention to himself on a simple walkthru. <shudder>

Yeah, well keep in mind it *isn't* a simple walkthru.
You go to ANY major casino, set up a camera crew, lights, etc. and walk just about any celb through, and it calls quite a bit of attention!

Yeah, there are quite a few words that NY'ers pronounce wrong. But, like any other dialect, if everyone is talking that way, nobody notices!
After all, does anyone in Boston correct Norm when he pulls a pencil out of the DRAW so he can DRAWER a sketch :D

I'm from NY, and I don't pronounce it that way, nor do I recall that pronunciation being common. Unless it suddenly took hold in the last 10 years or so.

I am a NYer too and I don't pronouce huge that way. I get made fun out here in the central Kentucky. People here insist I am suppossed to say Long Island as 'lawn-Guy-land". Weirdos! I have never said my home that way and don't know why Kentuckians think I am suppossed to pronouce it that way. Too much bourbon rots the brain I think.
Posted by: nyny523
I also say Longuyland (one word, of course!).
