What to do with my currrent TiVo

Just bought a Gateway DLP HD TV.
Been using a stand-alone Phillips HDR 612 with lifetime subscription service. I only want to run one TV and I don't want my hookups and my life to get too complicated. Should I consider hooking up both the standard stand-alone TiVo with a separate Direct TV receiver and the Direct TV HD unit to the same TV.
Or would it make more sense to sell the stand-alone and use the money to upgrade the HD unit to a larger hard drive, or can anyone think of a better option?
If I decide to sell the older TiVo with the lifetime service what would a good price for it be? I've already asked Direct Tv and Hughes, the lifetime subscription can transfer to the next owner of the 612 but I cannot transfer it to the HD unit.
Thanks for your input.

I don't remember what the breakdown is on how much the HDR 612 at different recording qualities. But the answer to that question plus which quality setting your normally use and how full your Tivo normally is would have a big bearing on what I'd recommend.
Unless you record everything on BASIC quality now, the new HDTivo will probably have as much storage as you currently do. And that's assuming that everything you record will be in HD, which it won't. Remember, stuff you record in SD will only take up about 1/8th the space of an HD program.
So I'd sell the standalone and see what happens. Worst case you either upgrade the hard drive or pick up a regular DirecTivo. You'll get better recording quality and you'll get much more for the HDR 612 on Ebay than the DirecTivo would cost you.

I agree with midas - Sell the SA and buy a $99 DirecTiVo. You'll be much happier with the quality of the DTiVo vs the SA. Plus, you'll make a nice profit on the deal.
For an idea on what you'll get for it, just do a search on eBay. Make sure to click Completed Items to see what they finally sold for.

Do you have HMO? If you do, you can do what was recommended to me. My SA is sitting in the livingroom as a media center for MP3s and photos. That's all it's being used for. If you don't, I'd go with these guys and say sell it.

Buy an HD unit for only HD programming
Keep your existing unit for SD content (or upgrade to the D* deal for $99)
This will ensure that you maximize recording space on your HD unit for only HD programming, and still give you flexibility to record SD content on your 'other' recorder.

HMO is only available for S2 units.
