Another "Practice" spinoff? Ellenor Frutt--The Comedy

From TVGUIDE.Com

PRACTICE MAKES TWO SPINOFFS?: Überproducer David E. Kelley is pitching ABC a half-hour comedy centered on Camryn Manheim's Practice attorney, Ellenor Frutt, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series, which would debut in early 2005, would follow Ellenor as she returns home following the demise of her legal drama, er, law firm. As previously reported, ABC has already picked up a Kelley-produced Practice spinoff starring James Spader. The Practice ends its eight-year run in May, but the franchise will be around in one form or another for all eternity.

If it involves Ellenor, it should probably be a Lifetime movie regarding child abandonement, since nobody has seen the tyke for a few seasons.

Jimmy should have a spin-off, focusing solely on "Jimmy the Grunt"-type cases. I'm sad to see how little they are using his character lately.

He was pretty good as George "Babyface" Nelson in "O Brother Where Art Thou". He should do more movies. :)

Speaking of abandoned children, where's Eugene's son, Kendall? I'd forgotten all about him. Is the boy raised by his mother, Sharon?

I can see a spinoff with Ellenor, but I can't see it as a comedy. Although I was actually hoping she would be cast with Alan in his spinoff.

I think Eugene's son began stalking Lindsey after he gave up his fascinataion with Lucy. Lindsey got all crazy and killed him. Oh Wait..... that already once.....oh wait.......twice.

Was this a real post? When I read the title I thought it was a joke.

Frutt, the comedy?? I don't think so...

How about a comedy with Jessica Capshaw instead? :)

Posted by: smak

I think Jessica Capshaw may make the Alan Shore show.

Also, when I think of Camryn Manheim, I think Richard Pryor, Jim Carrey & George Carlin all rolled up into one (insert overweight joke here!)

yes its a real post

Can you post the link? It's not that I don't believe you but I couldn't find it at TVGuide.com.

It seems David E. Kelly is stretching it a bit. His last two series failed miserably. Boston Public was dumped unexpectedly so he takes his one remaining show (that's getting canned) and splits it into two other shows? This has got to be one of the strangest things a TV show has ever experienced.

Never mind. I found a different link!

The Mary Tyler Moore Show spawned several sitcoms (incl. Rhoda and Phyllis) plus an hour-long TV drama (Lou Grant). That's sort of a similar thing. :)

Ok, the Eleanor Frutt sitcom, terrible idea.

But I think it was a great idea to dump Practice and go for the spinoff/whatever Alan Shore show.

People want to see more Alan shore, more Tara (more william shatner???), so why not start out fresh with a new show with those characters, instead of trying to fit in time for all the Jimmie/Eleanor/Eugene stories.

Here is the story from The New York Post:

'PRACTICE' SPINOFF NO. 2

------------------------------------------------------------------------
_Email _Archives
_Print _ReprintMarch 31, 2004 -- NOW there could be a second spinoff of "The Practice," which wraps this season after eight years.

ABC is considering a half-hour sitcom, starring "Practice" regular Camryn Manheim in character as Ellenor Frutt - who returns to her hometown after "The Practice" finale and interacts with her sisters. "Frasier" writer Dan O'Shannon would shepherd the project, projected for a midseason 2005 launch.

No word yet on who might co-star with Manheim, who's won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Frutt, and has been on the series for its entire run.

A spokeswoman for "Practice" creator David E. Kelley would not confirm the reports.

ABC has already announced that James Spader will star in a "Practice" spinoff launching next season, in which Spader's character, Alan Shore, is fired by Berluti, Frutt & Young and joins another Boston law firm.

The network has already ordered 22 episodes of that spinoff, and is reportedly considering William Shatner for a co-starring role.

Shatner is guest-starring in a five-episode "Practice" arc as shark-lawyer Denny Crane, and reportedly has an option in his contract allowing Kelley to make him a regular on the spinoff series.- Michael Starr

Is this the anti-Ally McBeal?

Posted by: aadam101

Anti-Ally is exactly what I was thinking.

Ally
So insecure she can't keep a man
lawyer at a prestigious Boston Law firm
bed hopper
Imagined her long time friends were doing strange things

Ellenor
So secure she had a baby without a man
lawyer at a not so prestigious Boston Law Firm
I'm starting to think virgin
Long time friends came out of nowhere often times after murdering someone

Then let's not even mentionabout the weight. Talk about different ends of the scale.

So she's the Foe McBeal. (Or would that be Faux McBeal?)
