best line in the show:
this is about being able to hold bad film makers responsible. this is just like when we got our money back for 'Baseketball'.
Nothing like someone poking fun at themselves.
I always thought 'Orgasmo' was their best movie. Nothing like a little 'DVDA'.

I was very disappointed with the whole episode.

you are right about the best line in the show, unfortunately it was the only time I laughed. I guess they are allowed a bad show now and again. It felt like they had to do something for the Passion but didn't know what to do.

I was far from disappointed in the show...
I was however, fairly well shocked by how far they took things with Cartman and his Hitler complex. South Park continues to go over the line in poking at the Jewish faith (along with every other faith too, but primarily aiming at the Jewish faith).
I give credits to the South Park crew for being topical though, and for skewering themselves and all of Hollywood in their episodes.

I don't get where they got that Mel Gibson is a lunatic. The best satire has some truth to it, but Mel Gibson being crazy just seemed to come out of nowhere.
I also don't understand why the priest told Kyle there was little about the crucifixion in the Bible. It's been awhile but I near as I can remember to say it was barely mentioned is a major understatement.
The Baseketball line was funny but otherwise it wasn't all that great of an episode.
BTW Even if one did believe that there were certain Jewish people who wanted to see Jesus killed 2000 years ago, what does that have to do with Jews today?

I'm surprised they didn't use their usual depiction of Jesus.

The "crazy Mel Gibson" was a charicature of Gibson's Lethal Weapon character - who appears to be a downright masochist and in one of the films scares away the bad guys by daring them to shoot him and shouting like Daffy Duck.

More like Curly of Three Stooges. "Eeny, meany, miney, hey Moe!"

I liked this episode. I think there were a lot of pionts on making fun of society made in this episode that seem to have been missed here.

I thought they were back on track after last week's too serious show.
Mel Gibson as a maniac...well, since when do they actually base all of their celebrities in reality, unless you really think that Barbara Streisand is spending all her time looking for a mystical key to take over the universe.
What can I say, anytime Cartman is connected to Hitler, it is funny.
And they weren't poking fun at the Jews; they were poking fun at knee-jerk Christians.

When Kyle was having the dream sequence about witnessing cruxifiction. Who's picture did they flash on the screen, was it Alan Alda? I though it was a pretty funny episode.

Yup it was Alan, I had to rewind and double check. I thought the entire episode was great but for some reason that part just had me rolling.
Can't firgure it out.

I thought Mel Gibson being portrayed as crazy might also have something to do with his father being somewhat of a conspiracy lunatic.
Now that you mention it, his lethal weapon character was pretty insane tho. :)

ah - yeah - what everyone else said.
Actually, I thought what the kids had to say at the end was good.

The FINAL thing at the ending was *NOT* needed, it would have been a great epsiode, but who wants to see
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Mel crapping on cartman?

everyone? :)

I thought that the show was great. There was alot of truth to this episode.

The part I liked most was that they acknowledged the absurdity of them even going to California to try to get their money back. That's really making fun of themselves for idiotic plot lines.

This was one of the worst shows ever. Not because of the depiction of Jews or Cartman's Hitler complex, but just because it wasn't funny. There were so many ways this ep could have been hilarious and they just didn't find any of them.
I usually LOL at SP, but the most I managed last night was a chuckle at the basketball line.

That was too funny. I had to go back to see that again....I think I was laughing and saying "what the..was that Alan Alda?!?"
Fitting for a nightmare. :-)

I didn't much care for the episode - it felt like they were building to something with Cartman's Nazi-esque ideas, but never quite got there and then the story was over. The only good storyline was of Stan and Kenny going to get their money back.
Interestingly, I bought the Schindler's List DVD and it was strange to see this episode after watching SL. (shrug)

I liked the way they subtley implied that Mel Gibson may be slightly wacky.
Posted by: TonyD79
They weren't building to anything with Cartman and Hitler, except Cartman's continuing and growing fascination with Hitler since he was forced to watch him for sensitivity training.
Having him lead honest Christians who are following him blindly because of the film was funny as hell. ("It must be Aramaic like in the film!")

That wasn't a movie, that was a snuff film!
Classic!

It was OK but I expected more - a lot more - from these guys on this topic. I agree w/ the post about that I think they felt the had to do something but wasn't sure what exactly.

The episode was okay, not one of the best, there was so much more that they could have done with mocking out The Passion, I was expecting more then a nutcase Mel Gibson. I did like the Basketball line, and the phone conversation between Stan and Cartman as Gibsons fan club founder. And I did find it funny that everyone thought Cartman was being pro christian not anti jew.
