I've got win2000k Pro installed on my computer with fat32 instead of the other format. Can I upgrade my TIVO using this computer? Thanks...

That shouldn't be a problem. Just don't let it boot into windows with the tivo drive connected.

Totally separate from Tivo:

If Win 2K is your only OS on that computer, you should really convert the drive to NTFS.

i'm not computer savvy and upon installing the o/s on my computer i used fat32 on my c drive because i'd never heard of the other. i've never had any problems in the 2 years i've had this system.

This is kind of like telling someone your Ferrari has worked fine when you've been driving it everywhere for two years in first gear.

But, that being said, its your car and you can do what you want. If you don't need the advantages of NTFS, then stick with the old stuff.

Ok, i agree with dahacker that a Windows 2000 installation in Fat32 lacks all the Features of the NTFS Format, like encryption, Security, permissions, compression, quotas, better Drive performance, and so on...

but the original question was, will it work to upgrade the TiVo?
simple answer is yes.

Just in case you are wondering, if you have Windows 2000 and FAT32 you can run the following from the command line.

convert c: /FS:ntfs

It will complain that it cannot get an exclusive lock and ask you if you want it to run at the next boot, select yes and reboot your computer. It will take a while depending on the size of the drive and you should have some free drive space but it will convert your drive to ntfs. You will not lose your data but like anything, back it up first.

Thanks for posting this, Ron ( and a warm welcome to the Forum)
Let me remind you that this does not always work. and the Tip about backing things up is, of course, very important.
