Good news: Farscape's return is OFFICIAL
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

After the recent news of Wonderfall's cancellation, it was nice to see this. Rumors have been bouncing around, but this is the first official announcement I've seen.
From: http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/art-...04/05/17.00.sfc
SCI FI announced it will be bringing back Farscape with an all-new miniseries — called Farscape: Peacekeeper War — slated to air in the fourth quarter of this year. The four-hour miniseries picks up where the cliffhanger series finale left off and will reunite John Crichton (Ben Browder), Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black) and the rest of the Moya crew.
Farscape creator Rockne O'Bannon and executive producer David Kemper wrote the miniseries, which was directed by Brian Henson. Peacekeeper War was produced by the Jim Henson Company and Hallmark Entertainment, and executive produced by Robert Halmi Jr.
SCI FI will make the official announcement at noon on Monday, April 5, during the channel's advertising sales "upfront" presentation.

YES!!!!!!!!! I've been waiting for this one. I absolutely hated the cliff-hanger ending of the series finale.

Finally Sci-Fi has done something right. Let's just hope they air part one of the mini before part two. They have a habit of running things out of order.

Yippee yahoo!
Now if we can just get an Angel/Buffy miniseries going...

It's going to be kinda hard to "reunite John Crichton (Ben Browder), Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black)" since they're a mound of Folger's crystals.

Good - return to TV. Bad - only 4 more hours.
Well, perhaps they'll do like with B:G and use it to test the waters for another all new series. (Yes, I know, I'm an optimist.)

Ok, I rented season 1 and the first 6 eps of season 2 from netflix, and completely and utterly failed to see the appeal. Since you people are all fans maybe you can tell me - is all this praise based on improvements in writing, acting, plots, etc that happen sometime after 2.6? Because the part I saw didn't come close to earning the Buffy-like rave reviews that I've read here, slashdot, and elsewhere. The best eps simply managed to not make me want to heave things through the TV.
Sarcasm aside, does it get better?

Good news. I actually have watched nothing on Sci-Fi since the Farscape finale.

Geez, all that happened was that they were beamed up for analysis. Any alien disintegrator ray worth its salt can be switched into reverse. Didn't they teach you anything at Starfleet? :D
This is NOT a spoiler. I have absolutely no knowledge of what the writers have in mind. This is only a semi-educated guess by someone who has watched a lot of science-fiction on TV.

[Farnsworth]Good news, everyone![/Farnsworth]
Sorry--that's the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the topic title. But it really is. Good news, that is.

Hey - there is a marketing tie in there..... How do you take your coffee? Ben Browder Brown or Claudia Black. <insert joke about other character names here>

It's great news that it will air this year!
What sucks is that sciffy will now be marching around saying how they were the ones that prompted the mini being made and how glad they are it's back and how much they love the show.... when none of that is true.
Brian Henson and the production company put up the money BEFORE they even had a distributor for the mini-series because he believed in the show that much. Sciffy had nothing to do with it.
They must figure they can get some press and tease the fans back is the only thing I can think they are doing this for. They are still scumbags.

I understand your point. I started watching FS in season 3 and was quickly captivated by it. Season 1 was uneven but I did enjoy the season finale ep's (Nerve/Hidden Memory) as it was where some of the FS mythology truly began to appear.
Season 2 got better - especially as we see more Scorpius and John going crazy. Be wary of the mid-season 2 three parter (Kiss the Princess) which I found weak. BUt the second half of season 2 picks up and the finale (Liars, Guns, and Money) is great. And season 3 just gets better. By the time you hit season 4, they have a few twists and new characters that keep things interesting.
Just my opinion...

DrStrange, if you gave the show that much of a chance and didn't like it, it's probably not for you. I was hooked on Farscape from the first episode. I think it is a great show, but I'm comparing it to other TV sci fi, which means the standards are not very high. I think the vast majority of TV sci fi is horrible.
I also think it comes down to personal taste. I can't stand shows like Buffy and Babylon 5. Both have gotten rave reviews here and elsewhere, but they weren't for me.

I am like DLiquid - while I started to watch Farscape around the middle of the 2nd or 3rd season... I would of gotten hooked from the beginning.
For me, its the actors and the writing that make a big difference. It like the actors actually are having FUN doing their job. Also, and I may be wrong with this, but the actors were basically nobodys... right? They had "nothing to lose" by doing their best.
And then... there is always looking at Claudia <drool>

I watch the first few episodes of season one and wasnt that interested... i never thought it was bad or anything it just didnt captivate me into watchign it every week.
Just recently ive been watching the season thats been showing on Sci-Fi in the UK and am really getting into it, am considering getting season 1 and 2 to work out what ive missed.
I watched the final episode and was a bit miffed at the way they ended up.. nearly as bad as how they ended Space Above and Beyond which i totally loved!

Thank God. I thought I was the only genre-TV fanboy who hated those shows.
Actually, to be fair, I only hated B5. I never gave Buffy much of a chance because my wife mocked me too much every time I tried to turn it on.

This news made me very happy because I love Farscape and was very pissed about how the show left off. Now at least they can tie up some of the loose ends and who knows if eniugh of us watch- maybe it gets picked up by another station.
Great forum guys. I'm a new member and love it .

I think I started watching some time in the 2nd season, and was hooked instantly. Getting into the story arc helped get me over the occasional sub-par episode, as well.

Agreed. Excellent writing and acting. Good sense of humor. Wacky and non-stereotypical TV Sci Fi. BTW, most of the actors are only "unknown" to us Americans. The Australian actors are fairly well known on Australian TV and movies...I think Claudia Black and Gigi Edgley worked together previously on some Australian TV shows.

Yes, drool, especially when she was wearing some of those tummy-revealing tight shirts. The other females weren't exactly hard on the eyes either.

B5: great series, marred by typical TV network exec idiocy (which marred seasons 4 and 5). JMS's writing style not for everyone, but the ambition of the project should be respected. Maybe not for everyone, but what is?

Homer: Well, I really should discuss this with my wife.
Salesman: [scoffs] Your wife? [cracks an imaginary whip]
Homer: What, you think I'm going to buy a $20,000 truck just because you make that noise?
Salesman: [does it again] [and again] [and again]
Homer: [on his knees] I'll take it!

We have the idiots running Sci Fi to thank for Farscape ending on a cliffhanger.
I don't know about someone picking up new seasons of Farscape; it could happen but I'd have to think it was a long shot.
Is it true that you have to have 100 episodes to go into syndication? With four seasons I think Farscape has 88 episodes; the four new episodes still only make 92.
It would be nice to get to 100.
Posted by: Cleetus VanDamme
I did not want to chance sindication so I ahve been purchasing the dvds, There almost complete(the whole series- there half through season 4 now).

Right, that was my point. I don't think either Buffy or B5 were bad shows, I know too many people who's opinion I respect that like them, I just meant that they weren't for me. I can see how it might be the same way for some people and Farscape.

I don't think you can blame Sci Fi for the cliffhanger ending. David Kemper could have easily chopped off the last bit of the ending and there would be no cliffhanger. I think he left it in as a statement that the show would be back.

It would have been really lame if it ended without the cliffhanger. I'm glad they did. The ending without it would have been too, well, contrived.
Actually, my favorite part of the finale was the "previously on Farscape". That flashback alone should have won an Emmy.

My understanding was that Sci Fi pulled their funding for season five just as season four was finished shooting; as such it would have been entirely impossible for David Kemper to have changed anything in a positive manner; chopping off the cliffhanger ending would have been even worse; there would have been no proper ending at all! To end without any proper ending would have left an even worse taste in my mouth. At least the cliffhanger ending leaves the hope that the story does continue (whether we get to see it produced for TV or not).
If Sci Fi had given David Kemper sufficient warning, he could have rewritten the last few episodes to have a more satisfactory resolution. He was given no such warning. He was given a promise of funding for a full fifth season, and he had no reason to think otherwise or to plan for any other possibility. He's not the one to blame here.

Is this going to need a new Season Pass?
I ask because the 30 minute behind-the-scenes specials on TechTV for Jake 2.0 do have the same ID as the series did.
Posted by: whitson77
I would guess so. But there is no way a die hard fan should miss it :D
