Angel possibly being picked up by UPN?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: GameGuru

Or any other network maybe? Has anyone heard? I won't let it end here! Noooooooooooooo!

Posted by: LoadStar

Nope. UPN officially passed on the option to pick up Angel. (Reports say that they really didn't have the money to spend on the options for the series anyway.) And thus far, no one has stepped up to the plate.

FX's president was quoted in an article as being interested not in series that are the most popular, but in series that have a passionate fan following, so there was some hope that FX might be able to pick up the series. Additionally, since TNT carries the series in syndication, they too were a target of the postcard campaign. Neither has publically expressed an interest in the series though.

Unfortunately, one of the production crew from Mutant Enemy was quoted as saying that chances of Angel getting a 6th season were about as good as finding weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. However, in the same breath, he did say that while he didn't have anything to announce, he said he was sure that there would be more stories to tell in the Angelverse.

Great.... Spike the Vampire.

Willow the Witch.

Dawn: Pure Energy

Cordy the Bitch

Giles & Wesley, the Watchers

Xander: The Handyman.

Okay now I'm getting rediculous. :D

More like Cordy the Friendly Ghost seeing as she's dead.

Seriously though, remember they were talking about doing a "Ripper" series or movie. Whatever happened to that?

Whedon seems to have lost interest in it...

Don't get my hopes up like that?!?!

New rule: No thread titles may be speculative unless there is some source to back it up. :p

She's actually the only one who could carry a show... but the execs would say it's too much like Charmed.

Posted by: JimSpence

Maybe Willow could join the cast of Charmed? Or at least be a guest star on a few episodes. :)

Doing "Ripper" was complicated by the fact that it was going to be some sort of co-production with BBC. Tony Head didn't want to have to leave England to do a series again, so it was going to have to be filmed in England. Production costs looked like they were going to get really expensive, and organizing it got to be more than it was worth -- so Joss lost interest.

I mean the Ripper series would be a young giles, right? So all new actors and all new set ups... same universe, occasional nods to the other series... like Enterprise, but not so stupid...

No - the series was to be a post-Buffy series, featuring Giles as we last saw him on Buffy. The story was to be initially during the same timeframe as season 6, after Giles left for the second time. When they eventually brought him back for a recurring role, the series was then re-scheduled for a post-Buffy series. The story was to feature Giles returning to London and fighting the paranormal in more of a kick-butt sort of way, more along the ways of what Wesley turned out to be on Angel.

As far as I've heard, it was actually to be a BBC production (not co-production - there was even some question as to whether it would be imported to the broadcast TV in the states).

And as far as I know, Joss is still semi-interested in the series, but a couple of things are holding it up - availability of Tony, Joss' own time (he's busy ending Angel and planning "Serenity"), rights to the intellectual rights to the character of Giles, etc.

Willow (Allison) is currently doing When Harry Met Sally (the play) in the West End of London. I was going to go see it but she was not working the week I was there.

Willow vs. The Charmed Ones

Who would win?

And this includes Evil Willow.

Willow would kick their butt up one side and down the other. :)

Only the love of Xander can save the world from Dark Willow...

Posted by: AJRitz

Evil Willow would suck the magic out of the Charmed sisters, rip their birthday suits off of them, and leave them pinned to the ceiling.

Of course then she would go find a way to destroy the entire world/suck the world into Hell/break down the division between the dimensions or som other such apocalyptic calamity. But it would probably be worth it to see the battle.

What's Serenity going to be about?

A movie based on his short-lived series Firefly.

Serenity was the name of a battle. In turn it was the name of the ship.

I'm glad somebody else said that. The power that Willow commanded towards the end makes the charmed ones look like Jr. High girls doing séances in the basement. You'd have to dumb willow down quite a bit for her to appear on there :)

And don't get me wrong. I liked Charmed, but its "fluff" factor is ever increasing.

BTW, in this week's Entertainment Weekly, Joss mentions that his next project after Angel departs will be trying to get an animated Buffy series going, which would allow him to feature all the impossible things they couldn't show in the live action Buffy.

I dunno. Animated Buffy? Sounds risky. But if anyone can do it, it's the Jossman.

Posted by: rtype

I saw an interview recently with the guy who plays Angel and he said something about getting older and said that going animated might be a way to keep the series alive longer--guess this is what he was hinting at.

This has been in development for a couple of years...it was supposed to debut something like a year or more ago, but FOX balked because it was 'too dark' or something.

I like those animated renditions! I'd definitely set up a SP for that series.

They need the same voices though...

They replaced SMG and Hannigan for the videogame with soundalikes... don't see why they couldn't do it again.

Posted by: SparkleMotion

Yeah, I think the one person the show could NOT work without would be Joss.

Posted by: Fustanella

Man, virtual Willow has some calves on her. :D

Posted by: LoadStar

Man... would you guys quit bumping this thread??? I keep getting this irrational shred of hope every time I see the thread title! (Even though I already responded to the thread topic and know it'll never ever ever happen!) :(
