WOW. This was an awesome episode.
Posted by: JadeWolf07
I love how it's beginning to tie into the storyline from the 1st season (the Kosovo events). These last 2 episodes have been excellent :D
Posted by: Rob Helmerichs
Yes, it looks like the Grand Conspiracy of the German Group is starting to emerge--or at least the outlines.
Posted by: pmyers
If taking 5 weeks off mean they product episodes like the last 2, then I say do it every year!
Posted by: hawkamer
Man oh man is this show good!
Posted by: milo99
Great episode! Is anybody else beginning to think that the writers really didn't like the whole Kosovo conflict... sure seems like they don't mind taking jabs at the US's role in it.
Posted by: jkindley
Great Episode! Hopefully the writers are going to forget about the stupid Prez sub plots and just stick to the main story :)

Was thinking this exact thing last night. These last 2 eps brought me back to the good old days of season 1 when I was on the edge of my seat for nearly every ep.
I love how the prez is actually involved in the main storyline. Heck, I like that there is actually a main storyline now. This evil guy pulling on Palmer's strings like a puppetmaster is very creepy. Who knows what he'll have Palmer do in the next few eps.
This is the 24 that we know and love!! Can't wait for next week!

I think one of the reasons I enjoyed this episode was that there was no Sherri storyline and they finally got the president involved in the same storyline as Jack!
It wouldn't be complete without a few things to pick on:
When they are wheeling the guy that got shot out of the hotel, he only had a sheet on him and the 2 guys wheeling them had no masks on.
If the bad guys were going to blow up MI-6 don't you think they would use something a little more powerful than some M-16 machine guns? Perhaps rocket launchers or something?
For all that C4 you'd think the explosion would have been much larger.

I was just thinking about that. Seems like an obvious production mistake.

not counting the big wall sized open window that was broken.
Why do they need the suicide vials, seems like NHS could help out with that.
Posted by: devdogaz
Great episode. Had a couple of issues (hit pause to rant a few times) but now I can't remember them so they must have been minor. It's too bad they had to start that silly subplot with Sherri and Milliken because now it will be very distracting to go back and tie it up. It was much more satisfying to see the President actually involved in something that viewers care about and not some silly "fluff" plot.

Yeah, if it was me... I would want to overdose on an elicit drug...rather than a cyanide capsule

It was exciting but full of unbelievable stuff.
1. No President in his right mind would cave into terrorist demands. Otherwise we might as well give the country to them. That guy has mega lost my vote.
2. That argument between his brother and the homeland security guy. I don't know if that was supposed to be the cabinent level secretary but if it was I would have thought the President would have asked his brother to leave.
3. Red Level? OK that is called when you are standing on the ground in New York and the shadow of the airliner passes you on the way to the WTC. Orange would have been more appropriate. Going to Red secretly is what he should have done.
4. The helicopter thing and all those dead people in the building?
5. The enormous block of plastic explosive was marked "Compound C4". Maybe if you just got it out of the box. Aw come on. That was way overkill to blow up a server farm.
6. Jack knows exactly where they keep the hard drive that has the info on it.
Posted by: kdmorse
I know, I know... don't play with live explosives....
But you're in a room full of computers, one of which has vital life or death information. You think you know which one, but even if you're right, it's screwed in good (and you're using a Knife instead of a screwdriver). And of course, you could be pulling the wrong puter.
How about examining the possibility of picking up the bomb, and tossing it into the other room? Seriously, there was plenty of time...
At least whomever the bad guys are, they seem to be stepping it up a bit. Makes things MUCH more entertaining.

While I agree with most of your nitpicks, this one at least was explained. Jack asked the MI-6 guy what server he stored the info on. They guy said it was on server A5. Jack found the bank of servers marked A and took out the 5th HD. Assuming the MI-6 agent was actually aware of what server the info was stored on, there is no reason to believe that that this scenario was not possible.

Well, the disease has a 100% mortality rate. If it gets out, EVERYBODY DIES. And in this day and age, containment would be virtually impossible.
I don't see that has has any option but what he said: play along and hope that he buys enough time.

That is why this is fiction... a chance to escape reality.
Posted by: pmyers
I agree Medievel Guy. A plane full of hostages is one thing, but an entire country is another. That does make me wonder how do you prevent this virus from killing EVERYBODY? If you can't then what's the point of releasing it if your just going to die too?

Methinks there must be an antidote. ;)

once you are dead, the virus is non-contagious
it said it in the first few episodes
Posted by: ufo4sale
The virus was altered so who knows what could happen.

Prediction: Michelle will be immune and they'll use her blood to develop an antidote.
Who's with me?

I think the first part is a given :D
Although I think a couple weeks back someone mentioned the plate glass windows providing the perfect opportunity for a tearful goodbye between Tony and Michelle (a la Spock and Kirk, no?).
And what about Chapelle?? "You've got to move on, Tony...."

I'm with you, and they do it all in 4 hours!

That's possible, but they did say 100% fatal.

Yes, to those who are susceptible to it. I thought someone at some point said that a small percentage wouldn't be affected.
Posted by: DreadPirateRob
^^ They did.
I believe that they have established that the mortality rate - once infected - is 100%. But if someone is naturally immune, they wouldn't become infected. Even with things like Ebola or other hypercontagious hemorrhagic fevers (upon which this fictional virus is certainly based), a small percentage of the population is going to be immune.

I agree, but he hasn't really done anything yet. He said some words on TV, which may or may not have something to do with the MI6 thing.
Now they ask him to kill Chappele. We don't know what will happen with that, so for the time being he really hasn't "caved" to anything that bad.
Now if he asks him to drop a nuclear bomb on country "X", than that would be caving.

I believe they said 10% of people would probably be immune.
Also my bet on the Tony/Michelle thing would be this:
1. Tearful Glass Window Goodbye
2. Tony Decides to Join Michelle in the Hotel, exposing himself.
3. Michelle Turns out to be Immune.
4. Tony Dies.

This show is not afraid to kill off important characters - they killed Jacks wife in season 1, so why not kill Michelle? Makes for great, unexpected TV that sets this show apart - you really never know who will survive or what will happen!

I have to agree with you there. I like her better as a bad ass field agent.

Well played, sir! We'll see. :)

How would the terrorist know that Chappel was actually killed? That could be faked.
Posted by: oski87
The accelerant (sp?) will significantly drop the mortality rate. Michelle lives. She has become, far and away, the hottest female character, and killing her off would be nuts.
At this point, her death and the Kirk/Spock scene at the window scene ("Michelle, why did you do it?" "Tony, the needs of the many..." Too funny, whoever first made that connection!) is too obvious. 24 does plot twists for the sake of plot twists, so no way.
UNLESS, Michelle is secretly pregn... oh, wait, been done. Never mind

Jack has to deliver the body...that's a bit harder to fake!

Lots of fun speculating what will happen next....it sure seems like the writers used their time off to focus the show on the good stuff. Those Sherri & Kim plotlines got cleaned up awfully quick, no?
While I'm still loving it, the plotline seems heavily borrowed from Die Hard 3. Terrorist: "Go get the package in the next 10 minutes, or more will die. Hold a press conference, or more will die." Instead of Simon says, it's Saunders says....

But it wouldn't have to be Chapelle's body, would it? Surely they wouldn't know what he looks like.

Except that Saunders seemed to know who Chapelle was and probably knew him in person... presumably from when he was lent to CTU in the past.

Well, Nina could have sent them personnel files for all the honchos at CTU when she was working there. They probably have his DNA.

Season 4: The opening shot is a flashback of Michelle leading her team out the door of CTU. In a flash, Michelle runs over to Chappelle, grabs his temples and gazes deep into his eyes.
"Remember...."

Is the British Big Bad the same guy who was the orchestrator on the boat at the end of S2 (and S1 I believe)?

And George Mason in season 2, and Gael in season 3.
Not the main characters, but big characters nonetheless.

OK, that's who the actor is, but is that the same guy from the boat, who some on these boards refer to as "the German" (obviously SS is British). Or was Amador the guy from the boat? I haven't seen S1 or S2 in a while.

What if Michelle is immune because she was innoculated? She could be the final-hour mole of the season.
Posted by: tomlouie
Notice how they made Chappelle just a little bit more sympathetic (when he allows Tony to get the suicide pills) just before the plot twists and Chappelle's life was on the line.

Yep, TVGuide's "Watercooler" was saying that he's being way too cool, so he's becoming this year's "George Mason."

When Michelle wiped her eyes after Gael passed on I was just sure she was going to come away with blood on her hands from her nose. They were just teasing!
Posted by: amory
with all of the talk about how horrendous the symptoms are preceding death - i didn't think Gael looked THAT bad! I mean, c'mon, for them to distribute suicide pills? those people should be writhing in pain balled up on the floor screaming and begging for mercy. gael just coughed a bit.
(sorry for the late post - finally just watched it last night)
