DirecTV Hard Drive Replacement Not Working
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I tried backing up my Philips DSR6000 DirecTV Tivo (30GB+15GB) into a new WD120 GB drive. I used the Hinsdale instructions (rather than Weaknees insturctions) because they seemed more direct. I set the drive jumpers accordingly and used the following commands to backup/combine the dual drive image into one:
mkdir /mnt/dos
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/dos
mfsbackup -f 9999 -6so /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdc /dev/hdb
umount -f -a -r
Pressed CTRL-ALT-DEL, powered doiwn, removed both Tivo original drives and installed the new WD120 GB as Primary Slave.
mfsrestore -s 127 -bzpi /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdb
umount -f -a -r
Pressed CTRL-ALT-DEL, powered down and backup
mfsadd -x /dev/hdb
At this point, I removed all drive jumpers on the WD120 GB (which is the single drive) installed the drive at the end of the Tivo IDE cable and it's stuck on the Powering up screen. After 10 minutes of waiting, I shut the Tivo down, moved the TIVO IDE cable to the middle position and restarted the Tivo again. It's still stuck on the Powering up screen after 10 minutes.
Note I noticed two differences between the Hisdale and Weaknees instructions - the mfsbackup command on weaknees says to use ... -9so. What's the difference between -6so and -9so? Lastly, the mfsrestore commands is also different on weaknees and there's no mfsadd command on weaknees.
Suggestioins wanted.

The problem is the -b. That's for Series 2 TiVoes.

So if I pop the WD120 GB drive back in my PC do I just:
mfsrestore -s 127 -zpi /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdb
umount -f -a -r
Pressed CTRL-ALT-DEL, powered down and backup
mfsadd -x /dev/hdb
Do I need to erase the WD120 drive first, or will the mfsrestore command shown above just overwrite the previous data on the drive?

You don't need to reboot before running mfsadd.
You don't even need to run mfsadd manually. Use -xzpi instead of -xpi and it'll expand automatically.

OK, thanks for the help. The Tivo is working fine now and showing 106 hours of recording space.
