Wondering how to a proper shutdown or powerdown on my system after using this option on the Hinsdale guide:

OPTION #3 (limited use): COPYING TiVo DRIVE TO NEW UPGRADE DRIVE

Don't get any response from crtl alt del, tried using a /shutdown command and get command not found.

As long as you've unmounted all your external filing systems you can just hit Reset or flip the Big Red Switch.

'mount' lists all the currently mounted filing systems and 'umount' unmounts them. Devices like /dev/ram0 are RAM disks that will evaporate when you reset anyway.

If 'shutdown' is on the disk, you might need to give it a path like /sbin/shutdown

thx for some direction, found a powerdown command in the /sbin directory

The question there would be whether it does an orderly shutdown or just turns the power off.

"init 0" is another possible way to trigger a clean shutdown of a Unix system.
