Help me please. I've run out of ideas...

Hi all,
I have a HDR312, which I upgraded with a second hard drive a couple of years ago. Recently, I moved, and when I tried plugging it back in, all I got was the "Your recorder is starting up..." message. I opened up the machine, tried all the plugs to see if anything came lose, restarted it, but to no avail.
I thought the best plan of action to take was to restore my backup image on my original Tivo A drive. I got out the CD-R that I burned of it when I first did the upgrade, and when I tried copying it to my C drive, after about getting halfway through the process, it says the file cannot be copied and quits. I have tried many options to copy it, but no luck.
I have tried using MFS Tools, to try copying the tivo.bak file that was on the CD-R directly to the Tivo A drive, but also failed at that (I don't even know if that's a possibility). I am kind of at the end of my rope, and want to just wipe both drives and start over from the beginning. However, without being able to get the Tivo image on my C drive, I don't even know how to do that.
Does anyone know how I can just start from the beginning (I don't care if I lose all my recordings at this point) and just the Tivo up and running again. Maybe the image on my CD-R had an error while burning, but I've long ago deleted the file from my hard drive. If there is a thread that addresses this, please let me know, as I've looked, and cannot find anything.
Any help would be most appreciated! Thanks in advance.
Steve

Can you quote the error message more precisely?
Can you copy the whole backup file to the hard drive, or does Windows complain?

I have had those sort of issues with different cdrom drives. You may want to try it in another cdrom drive. Some cdroms have trouble reading from cdr's. Especially cd's that were burned from older cd burners. At least that was my experience.
I know this may sound really stupid but make sure your disk is clean and free from finger prints. That could throw the laser off and cause that portion of the cd not to read.

I have already tried it in two different drives. I am not home right now, so I don't know about the fingerprints, but from my recollection, I believe it was clean.
The error message read something like "Cannot copy file because source cannot be read" or something to that effect, which led me to believe maybe my burner wasn't successful in copying the original backup.

Very possible it is corrupt then.

Can you read the disk in Windows?

Well, it seems that the file may be corrupt. So, what do I do now? How can I get a hold of another file?
Or maybe it's not corrupt and I don't know what to do next? Any suggestions on how to just wipe both drives and start from the beginning?
