Error Restoring Partitions

Hi...I truely have spent the last 2 hours searching and reading every post that had to do with "error restoring partitions" and I still can't figure out what my problem is.

Here is what has happened so far. I took the original 60gb WD Home entertainment drive out of a 60 Hour standalone series 2 tivo. The drive was damaged as it wouldn't get past the welcome powering up stage.

The first couple of times I tried to restore the image on it, I got the message "First target drive to small." So I took the -x out of it and it started restoring. It got to about 300 megabytes out of 816 and it said "error restoring partitions...20% compression." So I tried it again this time it got to 750 out of 816 megabytes and it said "Error Restoring MFS Data." So I tried it again and this time it only went to 9 out of 816 megabytes and it said "Error Restoring Partitions."

Now it does it everytime. It goes to 9 megabytes and says "Error Restoring partitions." Any suggestions? I am open to anything.

Thanks in advance.

Will

I would suspect that that hard drive is damaged.

You can download a diagnostics utility from WD that may confirm that.

Thanks Robert. I did what you suggested and it is indeed a damaged drive. To the trash it goes!

Is it worth checking to see if the drive is still warrantied?

Well, it says on the drive it was manufactured in Jan. 2002, so I guess it could be. I will call WD tomorrow. You never know.....
