Freezing/Rebooting IDE????

So I come home from work today, turn the TV on and see "Welcome...Powering Up" On the screen. (I have TiVo on a UPS and the cable box was on, so it most likely didn't lose power). Anyways, I figure, Okay, don't panic, just wait, maybe it's rebooting for a reason. A couple mins later it still said that, so I pulled the plug, waited, plugged it back in and all is well. When I came back 10 mins later, the screen says "Welcome Powering up" hmmm, no I'm starting worry, it hung on that so I power cycled again. This time I waited. Got live TV back, and went to change the channel, boom, locked again. After actually seeing it lock up several times I noticed that just before doing it, it got louder, I thing it's the second hard drive spinning up. So I went to several stores in search of a new IDE cable and eventually found one that would fit (but that's a story in and of itself). Anyways, so far it seems fine. My question is, would a bad IDE cable, cause a problem like this?

Well, a bad IDE cable *could* cause a problem like this, but I think it's much more likely that it's a hard drive problem. Best bet is to remove the hard drives, install them into a PC, boot using an MS-DOS boot disk, and run the drive manufacturer's DOS-based diagnostic tools. If one of the drives is bad then you'll know which one. Unfortunately these disk diagnostics don't always catch issues that can cause Tivo problems.

Well it's been okay so far, so I'm going to hope that's all it was. Honestly though, I kinda saw that coming. The IDE cable that was in there was VERY strectched, and when I looked at it, some of the plastic around the wires was worn off.
