ok, i went through the whole hinsdale guide and it seems rather involved and informative on the whole backup and upgradin process...
my question is:
say I have a TiVo with one drive in it...and I want to back it up...do i really need to go through and use MFStools? or can I just install the drive on my computer as a slave drive and copy the whole contents of the drive instead? like you would through windows? just an easy copy and paste from the slave (tivo) drive onto my windows drive?
now, i know this would take up quite a bit of space...but what if i have plenty of space to burn...is this just an easy way to do it?
not that I have anything against the MFStools program, I just don't like to mess with command line procedures, to me, it seems like you can really mess things up easily, maybe i'm just a little cautious
let me know, thanks!

No, you cannot use Windows to copy/upgrade a Tivo hard drive. Windows does not understand the Tivo file system (MFS). That's why you should use the Linux tools. You can also buy a CD with Tivo image files from PTVUpgrade that will automatically create Tivo drives in your PC.
