Hi,

As stated in the subject line:
I keep getting an
end_request: I/O Error, dev ....
hdc: dma_intr: .. {DriveReady SeekComplete Error}
hdc: dma_intr:.. {UncorrectableError }

I have a 240080 with a 80 GB WD hard drive.
Searching the archives, it looks like my hard drive is dead.
But sometimes, I get the prompt where it states
how much it has backed up... i.e.

18.9% something or other..

I assume the effort in backing up my original TiVo image
is a lost cause? Will the maxtor utility help this at all?

So all original TiVo settings are lost, and i will need a fresh image?

Hi...

Yep - that is a dying drive.

It would be worth running the WD disk checking tool to see what it says.

You might be able to clone the drive with dd or dd_rescue. MFS Tools doesn't cope well with bad blocks, though.

Unfortunately, the fact that you're getting so many errors in the areas mfsbackup is trying to capture does suggest that there's a good chance that something vital has disappeared into a bad block.
