Miss USA 2004 **Spoilers**

Okay. I just turned to Miss USA from Everwood in time for the swimsuit competition, where they had the 10 finalists compete. There was not ONE darker complected woman in the bunch. And 8 out of the 10 had blond hair and were tall and skinny. The other two were still tall and skinny, but at least had red and brunette hair.

What's the deal? There were plenty of contestants with a different look than that (at the beginning of the competition they all strut there stuff). It was getting so I thought I was watching the "Miss Clone USA." Let's see some diversity!

and 7/10 were from below the Mason-Dixon line.

Must be the NASCAR vote.

You know it's a fairly boring pageant when my roommate turns the channel from pretty women to a Whose Line rerun. :D

I was bummed that Miss NH didn't make it out of the final 15. And that Miss NY didn't make it to the final 15 at all (she is the cousin of my friend). So I was rooting for Oklahoma...great evening gown, stunning eyes, looked great in her swimsuit.

Until she opened her mouth on the final question...OMG!

yeah -- "who is the one person you'd like to have dinner with" .... "Justin Timberlake ! So he can teach me some dance moves !". I know Miss USA ain't exactly a tuneup for the Nobel Prize, but geeeyad.

She couldn't answer the "what's your favorite music" question, either.

On pure looks she was the hands down winner, but it was painful when she was answering questions.

Eh...I couldn't answer that one either if it was asked of me. I don't have a favorite music either.

I picked Miss Missouri to win -- and I was right! I'll bet the St. Louis papers have her on Page One.

I almost hit the quinfecta (5 for 5) but I had South Carolina third and North Carolina second. Silly me. :D

Well, they have a picture of her above the masthead, but that's it.

I think that'd be a 'quinella' !

edit -- nope, a 'quinella' in horse racing is when you pick the two horses to finish 1-2 in either order.

I made the term up, based on "trifecta." If there's a bet for naming the first five finishers in order, I'd think it'd have a pretty fat payoff.

Affirmative action rears its ugly head. I think that there have been enough various hair'd/complected pageant winners for us to not go on about that. Blondes just happen to be very (if not most) popular as far as looks go, what are you gonna do? What color hair dye do you think sells the most, brown? I don't think so. It is a "beauty" pageant which you have to assume to some extent is based on current opinions of beauty.

That doesn't mean that blondes are always going to win, but you shouldn't be surprised if once in a while (even frequently) all the top placers fit some stereotype.

What are you gonna do next, complain that no fat girls made it?
