Because of the President's prime time news conference tonight - FOX is moving "24" to Sunday, 9pm Eastern/Pacific. Watch those SP's! Do not want to miss it!
Posted by: ireland967
Thanks Jimbo :) Hadn't thought of this one
Posted by: johnb41
Thanks for the heads up. I would have been REALLY mad if i found out tonight at 9!
I'm so disappointed... i was so looking forward to tonight's episode!

If the Guide Data doesn't pick up in time, one work-around is to program something else to record at that time. Then, your Season Pass won't show it as being either cancelled by you or already seen, so it will record the Sunday one when that shows up in the GD.

What if President Bush announces Threat Level Red for a bioterror attack?
That would be creepy....
OK, it would be creepy anyway....
Posted by: Dubbadown
Well, I first thought I wouldn't be able to get 24 on Sunday due to a conflict with Arrested Development. Then, my brilliant sister reminded me that 24 and AD are both on Fox. So, whats the deal with AD?? Are they just going to bump that episode for the week? I believe when I went through my To Do list that there was an AD ep this week. Is this gonna be the straw that ended up cancelling the funniest show on TV? Damn that Bush!

Bush? I thought President Palmer was giving a speech!
Posted by: daperlman
If TiVo (perhaps D* now) is smart their will be a message on everyone's receivers.
I wonder why Fox decided to re-air 24 at the same time as The Sopranos... you'd think a lot of the same people watch them (people who don't have TiVo).
Posted by: johnb41
Please excuse my ignorance, but Presidential speeches always seem to be on Tuesday nights... anyone know why?
John

I told a co-worker and she said that was one of the top ten reasons to vote against Bush. :)

Bush Press Conference Throws Network Schedules Into Spin
By Brian Ford Sullivan
CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- The White House has scheduled a press conference for tonight at 8:30/7:30c, news of which has sent the broadcast networks into a tizzy. The expected 45-minute event has forced ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC to shake up their schedules with FOX's being the most disruptive.
While ABC, CBS and NBC will easily be able to plug in repeats around the press conference, FOX has been given the most headaches. With the event's likely one-hour length and 8:30/7:30c start time, there's no room for Tuesday mainstays "American Idol" and "24." Instead FOX will shift both "Idol's" performance and results shows back a night while "24" will air this Sunday at 9:00/8:00c. The moves will have a domino effect on FOX's previously announced schedule, as noted below:
Tuesday, April 13
8:00/7:00c - "That '70s Show: We’re Not Gonna Take It" (Repeat)
8:30/7:30c - "President Bush Press Conference"
9:30/8:30c - "That '70s Show: I'm a Boy" (Repeat)
Wednesday, April 14
8:00/7:00c - "American Idol: Episode 317" (Special Night)
9:00/8:00c - "The O.C.: The Proposal"
Thursday, April 15
8:00/7:00c - "American Idol: Episode 317A" (Special Night & Time)
8:30/7:30c - "Tru Calling: Death Becomes Her" (Special Time)
9:30/8:30c - "The Simpsons: Smart & Smarter" (Repeat)
Sunday, April 18
7:00/6:00c - "King of the Hill: The Incredible Hank" (Repeat)
7:30/6:30c - "King of the Hill: How I learned How to Stop Worrying and Love the Alamo"
8:00/7:00c - "The Simpsons: My Big Fat Geek Wedding"
8:30/7:30c - "The Simpsons: The President Wore Pearls" (Repeat)
9:00/8:00c - "24: Day 3: 6:00 A.M.-7:00 A.M." (Special Night)
Additional changes may be announced at a later date. As for the other major networks, here are the changes to ABC's upcoming schedule:
Tuesday, April 13
8:00/7:00c - "Eight Simple Rules: T.B.A." (Repeat)
8:30/7:30c - "President Bush Press Conference"
9:00/8:30c - "According to Jim: T.B.A." (Repeat)
10:00/9:00c - "N.Y.P.D. Blue: The Brothers Grim"
Here are the changes to CBS' upcoming schedule:
Tuesday, April 13
8:00/7:00c - "Still Standing: T.B.A." (Repeat)
8:30/7:30c - "President Bush Press Conference"
9:00/8:30c - "King of Queens: T.B.A." (Repeat)
10:00/9:00c - "Judging Amy: Kilt Trip" (Repeat)
Here are the changes to NBC's upcoming schedule:
Tuesday, April 13
8:00/7:00c - "Whoopi: Strange Bedfellows"
8:30/7:30c - "President Bush Press Conference"
9:00/8:30c - "NBC News Analysis"
10:00/9:00c - "Law & Order: S.V.U.: Shaken" (Repeat)
Tuesday, April 20
8:00/7:00c - "Whoopi: Sins of the Sister" (Season Finale)
8:30/7:30c - "Happy Family: Dear Mom" (Season Finale)
9:00/8:00c - "Frasier: And Frasier Makes Three"
9:30/8:30c - "Scrubs: My Choosiest Choice of All"
10:00/9:00c - "Law & Order: S.V.U.: Criminal"
UPN and the WB will proceed with their previously announced lineups. Also note that in the mountain and pacific time zones, the live nature of the press conference may shuffle programming even further.
Thanx to Red Dog at DVDTalk for posting this.

Or Alias too!

Fox is risking big ratings drops with their schedule moves by going head-to-head with a couple of shows that target similar audiences:
Thursday 8PM: American Idol results vs. Survivor vs. Apprentice finale
Sunday 9PM: 24 vs. Sopranos vs. Alias
Posted by: mrpayroll
So I wonder if Fox is going to get higher ratings with this idiot Bush's press conference, than it would by leaving it's schedule intact?
How many stations do we need televising this press conference? This is not the State of the Union address and should not be held in primetime.
Though I do wonder how many votes he's going to lose from the people that watch 24 & American Idol?
Chris

None. People who watch Idol are too stupid to vote.
Posted by: Steveknj
What the President wants, the President gets. It's always been that way. No major network would EVER preempt the Pres. for American Idol. I do recall however that it has happened in the past with certain sporting events (MNF maybe?). I'm not a Bushie, but it's just the way it is, and we'll get over it.

Well there have been a couple of Bush speeches that simply weren't on any of the networks accept FOX I think. I am guessing this one is deemed more important than others b/c of 911 commission.
Posted by: mrpayroll
Hey, I'm not griping about American Idol. It's 24 that I hate being preempted!
But really, how many network stations does his speech need to be on? And especially since not all of American gets Fox stations. At least, not compared to CBS, NBC & ABC.

I assume George W. is defending what he knew and did not do about 9/11. Just imagine it as President Palmer making a lame-ass speech explaining why terrorists unleashed a doomsday virus and detonated a nuclear bomb on his watch. It's pretty much the same speech. Make a drinking game of it with friends, take a shot of whiskey every time George says the phrase "evildoers who hate our freedom" or "freedom-hating thugs".

Two drinks for "terrist" "terra" or "nukular"

Get a grip. Its only TV.
Anyone who would actually vote based on such a thing shoud be lobotomized (oh, wait, wouldnt be needed) and shipped one way to Elbonia.

Well, you ARE talking about Idol watchers. :)
Posted by: shady
I must be missing something here, but we have news channels for news and sports channels for sports, and channels such as Fox for fiction such as 24.
So If I want to watch the pres, I'll watch a news channel (actually I won't, I'll read about it the next day), but if I don't want to it (most likely scenario), then why shouldn't I be allowed to watch 24. Is it because Mr. Bush is worried no-one will be watching and has instructed the networks only to show dross?
/end rant

Its called the free market. Get a grip. Turn off your TV
Posted by: MacThor
Well, it is the free market, and we can turn off our TVs, sure. A good portion of that "press conference" last night was campaigning, and forcing all the networks to cover it amounts to a free nationwide advertisement for GWB. I was just reading how Coors was going to have to pull their (IMO, very clever) ads with Pete Coors because he's going to run for office. But GWB gets an hourlong mandatory nationwide commercial.......
Posted by: efilippi
I don't think the networks are "forced" to air it. They are covering it as news but are free to ignore it if they wish.

Hello, I just got TIVO yesterday and with 24 being moved and it being played on FX also, if you set a season pass for 24 does it just record the tuesday night shows or does it record any time/channel 24 is on? It seems if it does the latter a lot of season passes would be taping many reruns (like Friends).

You should set it to record 'New Episodes' only.
Chris

1) A Season Pass is only for one channel. A Wishlist will record across channels.
2) You can set either a Season Pass or a Wishlist to record only new shows (although on a few channels, notably USA, this doesn't work very well).
3) I don't think 24 is shown on FX any more...

Lobotomized voters? Isn't that how Bush got into office in the first place?
I can't wait for the flood of commercials in Florida teaching people how to read a ballot correctly.
And to the schmuck who said that I wouldn't be complaining if this were a Clinton infomercial, that just demonstrates your severe myopia that you automatically ASSume that I have to like Clinton to hate Bush. They all suck. But thanks for playing.

FX Gets Encores of '24,' CBS Doubles Up 'Survivor'
(Thursday, April 15 02:49 PM)
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - With "24" bumped out of its regular time period this week, FOX is making sure viewers have a couple extra chances to see the show.
As it's done in the past, the network will use its cable sibling FX for additional airings of the episode, which debuts at 9 p.m. ET Sunday (April 18). FOX had to move "24" from its normal home this week to accommodate President Bush's televised press conference Tuesday night, which also bumped "American Idol" back a day.
The episode, "6:00 A.M.-7:00 A.M.," will have some stiff competition on Sunday, airing opposite new episodes of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" on NBC and "Alias" on ABC, plus "The Sopranos" on HBO.
FX will rebroadcast "24" at 11 p.m. ET Monday and 6 p.m. ET Tuesday, three hours before the show returns to its regular spot on FOX.
FOX employed a similar strategy during the show's first season, scheduling multiple repeats of "24" on FX to allow viewers to keep up with the real-time thriller's plot. Network executives credited the "multiplexing" with helping keep the series on the air as early episodes struggled somewhat in the ratings.
The ripples from Bush's press conference have spread to CBS as well. That network will re-air Thursday's (April 15) episode of "Survivor: All-Stars" -- which is up against the delayed "American Idol" results show -- at 8 p.m. ET Friday. It pre-empts a repeat of "Joan of Arcadia."
This is good news for those of you that don't have Tivo!

The networks are the only 'free' stations. The news and sports channels are pay channels via cable and sat which not everyone has access. Everyone with a tv can, and most likely receive at least one of the networks. It is shown on the networks as a public service.

Has FX updated its schedule yet? This hasn't shown up in the guide yet. I forced a call earlier today to see if it would show up but I still see a movie airing on FX Monday at 11pm.

Interesting that you refernce an article on a site devoted to anti-mormonism and an article that talks entirely of violence commited by "fundamentalilst Mormons" which are not Mormons at all. Just as the article stated, the Church officially renounced polygamy over 100 years ago and anyone practicing it today is excommunicated. Why would you blame Mormons for acts of violece committed by people who are not members of the church?
