Angel 4/14 Spoilers

Really good episode, I thought. Enough action to break up the introspection, and I was totally surprised at Gunn staying behind in the suburban hell. They're really doing a good job with making do with a limited budget... not setting things in dimensions that require effects, and easy to find locations, etc.

It'll be fun to see the last 5 episodes. I'm looking forward to seeing how the wrap the series up.

Looks like they're really revving it up for the home stretch!

But I have a trivial question. The speech in my .sig, what the heck is the word in brackets? I played it back about 20 times with Instant Replay, but phonetically it sounds exactly like what I put in the brackets--which, as far as I know, is nothing like any actual word.

Opaline \O"pal*ine\, a. [Cf. F. opalin.]
Of, pertaining to, or like, opal in appearance; having

Heh. Shrimp = Cheese (Buffy reference).

Damn, I'm gonna miss this show.

Man, killer episode tonight.

I loved the meeting at the beginning:
Spike: "But.. this is an important meeting!"
Angel: "At least somebody --"
Spike: "My first official parlay as a very loosely affilated member of... What are we? Tell me we're not scoobies."
Angel: "We don't have a..."
Spike: "A name? Well, that's probably for the best. You'd want to be 'Angel's Avengers' or something."
Angel: [scoffing] "Angel's Avengers? That's... " [thoughtfully mulls the name over again]

New title sequence - Harmony's a regular. Congrats, you have 5 more episodes left to enjoy it. And Fred's gone, replaced by Illyria (except for the ensemble shot at the end). :( Strange that they spent the money on a new title sequence for 6 episodes... with as tight as they were budget-wise, you'd think that money could've bought another VFX shot. *shrug*

Ok, we got what we needed from the troll - errr, Lindsey - lets take the Camaro back and grab Gunn. I wonder if that's it for Gunn... would kind of suck if his character took a bow this far ahead of the end of the series.

I loved the scream-take with Harm, Eve, and Lorne. Perfectly executed.

Did anyone sort of expect, based on the instrumental music as Lindsey went out to get the paper, that there was about to be some singing and dancing? :)

Man... how can they cancel this show? :( Hate the WB.. hate them, hate them, hate them.

I really loved the concept of a holding area for hell being suburbia a la Groundhog Day.

I think there's a more direct buffy reference. I can't remember what episode it was in (for some reason I'm thinking of the troll episode) where Anya is talking about alternate universes, and one that's all shrimp and one that's no shrimp. (maybe the Jonathon episode? Help me out here!)

Thanks! I suppose that should have been a little more obvious, but it wasn't...

I don't watch Angel but I saw that quote and no question that is from Buffy!

I'm about 95% sure that was in "Superstar" the episode about Jonathan. It comes up when Anya is trying to explain alternate realities to Buffy and she says something like, there could be a reality without shrimp. Or one with only shrimp.

I do like that Angel harks back to things on Buffy, that's pretty neat.

The "shrimp dimension" comes up in Superstar on Buffy, and Anya brings it up again later - I don't remember exactly which episode, but the conversation takes place around the round table in the Magic Shop while Giles is running it.

Back to Angel....

I thought I would fall asleep during the Wes/Illarya scenes, although I did pay attention and the writing was actually very good. I just hope by next week, the two of them accept what has happened to both of them and rejoin the "fight". A brooding Wes is a boring Wes, IMO

Spike and Angel were a riot in the car, thinking they were going to "burn"! I can't remember the exact lines, but it was so funny when Gunn opened the car door and they both jumped back. Also Spike returning from "Hell" screaming, "I'm on fire!!!!!". "Nevermind" (paraphrasing).

As for leaving Gunn in the alternate "Hell", I think I would be more upset if I didn't know the series was going off the air and there were only 5 remaining eps. Actually, I was so looking forward to Angel's return last night then my son reminded me that it was cancelled. My mind had blocked out that horrendous fact and then I was depressed when the show started.

Sometimes it darned difficult to figure out what an actor is saying, it doesn't even have to be an unfamiliar word. Last year I was watching Monarch of the Glen which has several characters with a strong Scots accent that's very difficult to decipher once in a while. I replayed one remark half a dozen times and couldn't get a single word out of it, then it hit me. Closed Captioning! Never used it on my new TV, forgot it had it. Toggled it on, saw what the sentence was, listened to it again, and was amazed that I hadn’t understood it, it was so simple.

Closed captioning is my friend. And yours.

That happens to me all the time. I don't know why I never understand them at first.

I felt the same exact way on both parts :) In fact, I was kind of disappointed they didn't break out into song.

73 superstar:
a world without shrimp. Or with, you know, nothing but shrimp.
Anya: "Oh ok. Umm. Say you really like shrimp a lot. Or we
could say you don't like shrimp at all."
Anya: "Blah I wish there weren't any shrimp you would say to
Buffy: "Stop with the shrimp I am trying to do something here!"

89 triangle:
ANYA: It's possible that he's in the land of perpetual Wednesday ... or the crazy melty land ... or, you know, the world without shrimp.
TARA: There's a world without shrimp? (Willow looks at her) I'm allergic.

I found this on:

I just typed in shrimp. It's a great resource!!!!
