Sky + decoding

As far as I understand Sky + , the digital stream is saved directly on the hard disk in the receiver so it can be decoded later on viewing.

If this is right, is there a set amount of time before the programme 'expires' and can't be viewed ?

I'm saying this because I'm assuming that the decoding keys in the smartcard will change over time and hence lose the ability to decode 'old' recordings.

As I understand it the only time limit invloved is that you must be subscribed to the channel (/package - whatever!) that it was recorded from at the time you watch it back.

The keys do change and are sent down from the satellite, hence why you need to have a satellite signal to watch a recorded programme.

They did change the encryption format once, when they issued new viewing cards, and IIRC that did mean that very old recordings with the old encryption stopped working.

PPV programmes do expire.

I think it is a week if you haven't started watching (and you won't be charged for it), or 24 hours after starting to watch.
