Queer Eye Flashback (Pilot)

That was kinda cool seeing the producers, with Carson and Ted, almost MST3K-ing themselves. And the episode was pretty good, but not very educational--I'm glad they started focusing more on teaching the straight guy (and us) stuff, rather than just picking things out for him.

In fact, the second wierdest part of the night was seeing Carson go into the mall and start buying clothes for the SG without bringing the SG along. It just seemed so odd, even though I know that Carson has to pick up a lot of stuff without the SG.

The absolute wierdest part of the night was the big breasted blonde in the loft. Huh?

I too thought it was interesting! It was fun seeing them talk about the first show and this and that.

Side note - If I were the "original" members of the Fab 5 I would be pissed not having made the move to NY!! LOL

I thought it was interesting to watch. Kind of funny to see what the show has evolved in to.

Interesting how closely matched the replacements were to the guys in the pilot. Decorator guy looks like a brother to Tom. Old grooming guy looks pretty much like K and old culture guys looked pretty much like the second one. Guess they liked the type but the three they had would not move. Their loss. I'm with Kevostl, I bet they're pissed.

That grooming guy and Kyan are exactly the same! The talked the same, look the same (except for the original guy is like a foot shorter), and even used the same terms ("product").

The culture guy is still useless !!

I thought it was really interesting how the culture role has grown. The original guy, as well as the first "series" guy (the other black guy) seemed to only focus on music. Jai, on the other hand, does music, theater, arts, and also provides a much needed emotional focus for the SG.

I thought the same thing about the decorator guy, he was very close in resemblance to Tom. Having the culture person choose music for the straight guy seems strange, because how can you tell someone else what music they should like? Updating a collection I can understand, but enjoying a certain type of music is such a personal issue.

With all the backstory comments included, this pilot was a fun episode to watch, especially the opening credits! Almost identical to the ones they use now.

And it explains why Ted doesn't have his glasses on in the opening credits.

I would expect grooming guys to use similar terms, especially if they were both hairstylists. I didn't think they looked too similar, but I was suprised by the sound of the voice and the simple, short, declarative sentences. Almost identical.

I recently picked up the QE book, and it's fun to see how the guys' different personalities come out in the writing. Kyan uses short, declarative statements (as I mentioned already). Ted uses 3-4 sentences to set up a joke and deliver the punch line. Carson's stuff was peppered with quips and puns. It's a fun book. Lots of new "Hip Tips", as well as ones taken from the show.

Did anyone else notice from the show's website that Kyan was a hairdresser for TLC's _What Not To Wear_ for a while? I vaguely remember someone like him from episodes 18 months ago. I've been hoping to catch him in one of the re-runs, but no luck so far.

I was always under the impression that "Butch" was the first Queer Eye. I believe Blaine was the original Culture guy's name. Regardless, it was a fun watch.

So is picking furniture, clothing, etc. I am also glad they involve the SG more in the eventual show.

As for the music, there was the comment that pre-Jai worked from the existing music collection and found similar but newer types of artists, so he was actually updating the collection.
