The Amazing Race 5

Mark your calendars and start your engines; The Amazing Race 5 is now on the schedule for July. Premiere is a 90 minute episode at 9:30 on Tuesday, July 6 (immediately following the Big Brother 5 premiere.) Regular time slot is 10pm. (On CBS of course).
The only other info I've seen is that one of the teams contains Alison Irwin who was apparently a former Big Brother houseguest. Not sure I care for that; she's had her 15 minutes.
I'm ready. TAR is still my favorite Reality show out there. Anyone else?

I haven't watched TAR yet. I'm actually looking forward to it this summer...I hear so much about the show and how good it is, and I've been watching a LOT of reality shows in the last year-both good and bad. So I've been anxiously awaiting TAR...however, I was seriously bummed that Alison (blech) will be on it.

I love TAR and can't wait for the next installment. I'll definitely have the TiVo set. Count me out for Big Brother though. What a bunch of trash that is.

Excellent show and I can't wait to watch the next one. The one problem I have with it is holding the leading teams back each week waiting for the next task or travel location to open. But we've been over that many times here and I don't see a better solution than what they are doing right now. Anyway, can't wait for July.

The only solution I'd ever come up with is allowing teams to "bank" time. If the have a 50-minute lead, and they find out that there's only one flight to the next destination and everyone will catch up, they could "bank" their lead... i.e., save the time between their arrival at the airport and the arrival of the second place team.
Then they could use at either the conclusion of a leg (to avoid elimiation, let's say) or at the start of another leg.
And much like a Fast Forward, you'd limit teams to using the bank once, or perhaps twice.

I know that this was mentioned in another thread... but, as far as I have read there are two main rules changes for TAR5
1) Yield - The ability for a team to stop a team behind them for a period of time (not sure how long). This would really work well in a transportation situation when the next one was several hours away.
2) Non-Elimination Robbery (can't think of a better name for it) - For a non-elimination round, the last team to check in will not only not receive any money slated for the next round... but they will lose any money that they had. In my opinion, this is a cruel rule; but will make for some interesting TV racing to the Pit Stop.
One question - do the teams know in advance when elimination is/isn't up? As the viewing audience, we know that the first 6-8 legs are elimination... and then they alternate between elim/non-elim until there are 3 teams left with 2 legs to go.

You have made my weekend!!! Why this show doesn't have a bigger following as say, Survivor or BB is beyond me. Granted the flux of the show is not to denegrade other contestants, so maybe that's the problem!!
AR is definitely THE best reality show on the airwaves (IMHO).

I think we'll be the judges of that. Fork it over. :D

Great news. I love the Amazing Race, only Survivor tops it in reality tv.
