Will there ever be TV again?

My wife thinks our Tivo is broken. Why doesn't it record anything anymore, she asks.
We don't watch reality shows and it seems like its been weeks since there were any regular hour or half hour shows on. There was Gilmore and Everwood this week, but that's it. Everything else seems to be repeats, reality shows, or specials we aren't enthralled by. I have lots of movies recorded but who can watch a movie starting at 8:30 or 9? Showing my age, I guess.
The Good Eats show on 'toast' was the hightlight last night. Alton must be just about out of ideas.:p

I have the same complaint. My SPs consist of reruns, old TVLand shows, a few cartoons, and the occasional movie. There are a few exceptions. 24, Smallville, and Angel have returned, and Enterprise will be a new one next week, but there is definitly a shortage of new stuff. :(

Touching Evil and Tru Calling are both new this week too.
Ed, I'm curious, do you get home from work late? Because you could always start the movie-watching a bit earlier in the evening. :)

Or watch the movie in two parts.

Don't forget Without a Trace is also new tonight.

I've noticed the drought too. I've filled it with "Wild West Tech" and "Band of Brothers" on history channel, and Dateline.
Hey, my 300th post! Woo Hoo.

I hate to hijack the thread, but what is Wild West Tech about? That sounds kinda interesting...

I had a theory where you could get 2 or 3 big-time TV show producers, like Dick Wolf, Jerry Bruckheimer and maybe another one or two to hold their shows out until the TV networks stop cancelling great shows in order to air the latest POS reality show.

I'm glad you asked! Host Keith Carradine examines some aspect of technology that helped tame the Wild West. Couple of weeks ago, he examined the different kind of handguns your average gunslinger used, Holster Tech, etc.
They also did a show on different kinds of Execution technology used in the Wild West. Morbid, but fascinating.
Check it out here
I really have enjoyed the show. It is very well done.

Welcome to a non-sweeps month. May will be a sweeps month again and all of the new stuff will magically reappear.

I'll have to try an SP for that. Looks interesting!

Shoot, I watch a lot of reality TV and even I was noticing the drought. I was thinking maybe my relatively new Tivo was making me increasingly picky, so I'm glad to hear I'm not alone.

Soon there will be another reality show for all you fans.quote:
Fox TV is reportedly close to a deal with the newly founded LFL to create a 10-episode reality series based around the provocative concept of beautiful women playing football in their skivvies.
This could give Joe Schmo 2 a run for the money. :p

LFL stands for Lingerie Football League?
God, is this a great country or what. How could I have missed that the first time.

*snort* Somehow, I have a feeling that one will miss the all important female viewer. :)

If you have Tivo and cable or dss, but still can't find anything to watch, I recommend: 1) expanding your taste even by a little, 2) getting a job, 3) developing any kind of non-tv hobby, 4) taking a break from tv for things like eating, sex, urination...
I have to prioritize. I only record my top 20 or so. If I had unlimited time, I'd be recording 100 shows a week. Have you REALLY seen every episode of Seinfeld and Twilight Zone? I mean, even in a slump, there are always reruns of stuff you like and I just have trouble believing anyone's made time to watch all of it.
I have a lot of shows I want to watch but want to see from the beginning like Angel and Alias, but haven't yet made time to get caught up on them so I don't record the new episodes. I hardly watch anything on Discovery or TLC anymore because I just don't have time after watching the stuff most important to me.
I just don't get it. I know Friends has been in reruns but come on, you're OUT of stuff to watch??

Yes, out of things WE can watch. My wife just won't watch a rerun. It drives her nuts that our son can watch Star Wars over and over and over...
And if you don't want reruns, then you are faced with a dirty little secret of TIVO life: One never misses an episode! With the FRO season pass working away, there is just no missing anything. So once the season is over, it's over.
Damn TIvo.

I think you misunderstood me... when I mentioned reruns, it was for reruns of shows you HAVEN'T seen. I don't blame you for not wanting to watch the same show twice but when you look at shows like The Simpsons that have been on for 13 years, have you REALLY seen all of them?
I can name a hundred shows I would watch if I had time. I don't even watch Law & Order.
