From SciFiWire:
quote:
E! Online reported that The WB executives have decided to review an episode of Fox's canceled fantasy series Wonderfalls along with its pilots, which means it is in the running for a fall-season pickup.
And this:
quote:
The WB has approached Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel creator Joss Whedon about doing at least a movie-of-the-week or two—and possibly as many as six—next season, thanks in large part to a fan campaign organized by Saving Angel, E! Online's Watch With Kristin column reported.

Go Buffy! Go Angel! Six movies would be like one of these stupid short seasons everyone's doing these days. That'd be reasonable.
Of course the stupidity of this should be obvious: doing 6 movies probably would have a higher budget than a whole full-sized season.

I thought Gellar thought she was a star now and thus couldn't do Buffy. I mean what with Scooby Doo and all.

Every time I say this people jump on me, but here goes...
I think SMG has average TV quality talent. Her first big gig was on a soap opera and her talent never grew much beyond that level. She couldn't carry a film the way a Charlize Theron, Julia Roberts, Meg Ryan, or even Sandra Bullock could. Maybe in time she will.
Now I'll wait for everyone to come in blasting me and name 5-10 episodes of Buffy where they thought her acting was great. That's fine, but what can you say for the other 134-139 episodes? Yup, average TV talent.
I see her in the same light I see Ben Affleck. He is great in Kevin Smith films but outside of that he is out of his league in terms of acting talent.

Maybe she's starting to realize that, as good as she does Buffy, she can't do anything BUT Buffy!

*shrug* I'm still mad that David Duchovony thinks himself an actor, too.

He IS an actor, and a dang good one--as long as he's playing Mulder.

Oh, I'm sure SMG is very talented. Why, I saw one interview with her when she was promoting the first Scooby-Doo. She came across just as intelligent as Jessica Simpson...
Wait a minute...

Good news for Wonderfalls if its true. That show was cancelled way too fast by Fox.

Woo-hoo! Maybe we'll see what the cow coffee creamer has to say.

Let's not forget SMG has an emmy and should have received one for Buffy as well. She is a TV actress and it has done the smart TV actress thing. She's made mostly ensemble movies. She knows she can't carry a movie. Did anyone see "Simply Irresistible?" I didn't think so. She could obviously carry a big screen Buffy movie.
I don't know if 6 movies is such a good idea. Ever heard of "leave the fans wanting more?" I think that one or two movies could work.

I am surprised WB is looking at Wonderfalls because their pilot plate is extremely full. I would think WB would need to get a major discount on the 13 episodes (Fox or production company write-off) for it to be in consideration. Add that on top of its Canadian origination, and you might be looking at a scripted show at a cost at the same or lower than a reality show. It wouldn't mean anything to help the show's actors it would seem since there would be no additional episodes ordered until a few aired on the WB to see how the ratings come out from my guess.

On the other hand, the thirteen episodes are already paid for and in the can...

A series of Angel/Buffy movies would be great. And while I'd like to see SMG involved, by the end of the Buffy series there were plenty of folks who could carry on the tradition. Michelle Tractenberg, Alyson Hannigan, Nick Brendan, Eliza Dushku, etc. could carry things on - maybe with a couple of the new young slayers. Buffy could be off looking for more potentials turned slayers or on some sort of prolonged world-travelling vacation without leaving much of a plot hole.

I actually think that Wonderfalls would be a good fit at the WB. The show got just enough buzz to make it worth a shot, and the network and Tim Minear have successfully worked together before. While the numbers were not great for FOX, the same ratings would be gold for the WB, and they have some programming they could make Wonderfalls work with.
Not a bad chance for them to take. At worst, they buy some episodes that have already been produced and dropped by another network, at decent cost. They know that they'll at least get modest ratings from existing fans.
On the other hand: At best, they nail a nice demographic with a critically respected show, and shore up a schedule that is about to lose some established programming (7th Heaven, Gilmore Girls, Smallville, are all among shows that they feel are getting to the end of their cycles). If the WB plays it right, they win either way.
