Is there a disk error detector/repair utility on mfs tools

Welll after spending the better part of an upgrading the drive on my friends 30 hr Sony TiVo - it seems that there is still a probelem. The menus refuse to displa correctly and it freeezes.
Esentially I want to know if I hook the drive back up to my pc, and boot to mfs tools linux again, is there a command I can run (using the modifier - y) to make sure that it corrects any errors it finds. This utility would be like checkdisk or scandisk or something - if one compared it to Windows.
Does a utility like that exist in mfstoools?
Thanks,
Erik

If you really want to check the drive completely (and it sounds like you need to) just use the manufacturer's software to check it in DOS or Windows. That's the best check - manufacturers just haven't written these diagnostics utilities in Linux yet.

Doesn't booting under Windows write a signature to the TiVo drive?
If this is the only way to diagnose a drive (which I also have to do :-( ) and the signature gets written to the drive, how does one get rid of the signature to be able to use the drive in a TiVo again?
Thanks.

It's only a problem if you boot into Windows XP or Windows 2000 with your Tivo drive connected in the computer. Nothing to worry about if you use a DOS boot disk, then run the drive manufacturer's DOS-based test utilities.
To play it safe I just disconnect my Windows XP drive when I'm doing Tivo stuff.

Ah, yes. Of course. Duh.
Lived in the Windows-only worrld for a little too long...
Thanks :-)

I hate to say it but it's unlikely that the problem has been transferred from the old drive to the new.
The problem is either that something else is wrong that just happens to look like a failing disk or the new disk is also faulty.

I know you may be a bit frustrated, but they did answer your question.
You need to just check the drive maker's web site to see if they have a utility to diagnosis their drives. You can then create a DOS boot disk (bootdisk.com) with the utility on it to check the drive.
