Apollo 13 on Bravo

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Bravo really screwed up the 2nd airing of Apollo 13 tonight... the program came back from commercial and had suddenly rewound over an hour. Then they suddenly skip forward 20 minutes from where they should have been. After another commercial the program is where it should be. However due to the time shifting we get to watch 15 minutes again. Next time I'll get out my DVD and watch that!

This thread finally gives me the chance to say (mockingly) Bravo, BRAVO!

Whew, good to get that one off my chest!

Last time I heard about something like this was when CBS messed up an episode of Robbery Homicide Division. They ended up replaying the first 10 minutes, then cutting out the next 10 minutes.

My son was berating me for screwing up my da-dit, da-dit, da-dit...dah-dit. Dad, you went backwards!.

Great movie, how could they screw it up like that.

This is the first time my 11 year old son saw the movie and I was surprised to see that he caught right away the "was it the door?" question from the young son when he was told about the accident on the Apollo. Frankly, I had never noticed it myself. Nice touch, seems very attuned to what a kid would think.

This is one of my all time favorite movies and I can remember when I saw it the first time in the theater that line hit me more than any other.

That kid delivered it incredibly and it was a huge impact.

I only let myself watch this movie about twice a year. I love it. Everyone is spectacular in it.

This movie isn't one that you should watch on network or cable TV. Buy the DVD. It's worth it.

Any other geek own both copies of the DVD?

One has all the bonus features, but is only in DD 5.1

The DTS one doesn't have the special features.

I did consider it, but since I'm still listening to things in glorious 2 channel stereo, I opted for just the special features. :)

I guess I'm a geek! :)

That DTS track is simply one of the best, but I couldn't pass up the special features, particularly the commentary track by Lovell.

Is there a gay undertone in this film I never picked up? Why is Bravo showing it? ;)

I've given up watching movies on Bravo. IIRC, they edit strong language out, and hack the movies up so badly to fit in commercials, they're unwatchable. I also find it ironic that a channel dedicated to the arts goes to such great lengths to censor and edit its programming as much as they do.

Actually, I can't really stand to watch movies on any channel that edits language or has commercials. I'm spoiled by the premium channels, I suppose.

I sure agree that watching these movies is difficult but I try to have some family-friendly choices ready and oftentimes the movies my wife and I rent/buy/Tivo don't fit the bill. So I'll grab some where-ever I can get them.

It struck me especially on Apollo 13 when we got to T minus 5 seconds and...windex or feminine napkins or something. Bummer.

Dang it, I can't see out the window of our space capsule! Hand me the Windex and those feminine napkins!
