Upgrading a Philips HDR31202 - Please help

I attempted to upgrade my HDR31202 using the hinsdale how to. I failed miserably.

I'd like to replace the hard drive with 2 Seagate 80gb hds. My computer's tower only has bays for 2 hard drives. The hinsdale how to asked that I install all 3 hard drives, the orig tivo and 2 new 80 gigs. I'd like to back up your thumb settings et al on one hd and install the 2nd with a macguyver kit, but the steps in the hinsdale how to did not work.

What are the steps to follow?

1. use the mfs tools cd to boot?

2. I could not verify the drive sizes. It seemed to show the orig. TiVo okay, but not the new one?

3. Install the tivo hd with master set pin and the 2nd hard drive set in master position?

4. Which linux commands to used to back up your data from the tivo to the new hard drive?

5. What is the next step to follow for the 2nd 80gigs.

I appreciate any help you can give me.

well I don't believe you need all the drives in the computer.

I would do it this way in your situation. Make sure in your BIOS you have all the IDE interfaces set to automatic and not disabled(this may be why you cannot see the drives).

put you old tivo drive in and one of the other drives(your master tivo drive)
Make sure you set the pins correctly master for the tivo and slave for the seagate.

Do the backup command to copy the thumbs. I don't know what it is.

then do.

mfsadd -x /dev/(NEW Tivo Master Drive)

that will expand the drive to full size of the 80 Gigs.

no take the old tivo drive out and put the new drive in.

then you boot with the mfs tools cd. I cannot remember the exact command to expand to the second drive but it also starts with

mfsadd -x /dev/ /dev

I cannot remember if the new tivo drive is the first one or not. check hinsdale.

Okay, great.

Now, about the second hard drive. Do you think it will run too hot? Is it not recommended to put a second one in?

Can I back up the drive to the new hard drive? In the Hinsdale it says to back it up to the C.

I've been running 2 drives in my hdr31202 for about 2 months with the temperature never running more than a couple of degrees higher than with the one original drive.

I have two 120GB drives in an HDR212 and it runs very cool. Usually around 30C so it seems this model can handle dual drives without heat problems.

We got the first drive installed, but we're having trouble with the second drive.

What command do I need to get it to recognize the second drive?

Thanks in advance.
