FWIW: In order to submit line up changes to TiVo we are now required to submit our TiVo service number and name.

"Dear Valued TiVo Customer,

Thank you for your lineup submission. We are currently working on this issue. However, in order to fix the issue in a timely manner, we need your 15 digit TiVo service number and you name. Thank you.

TiVo Lineup Specialist"

I can live with that. At least I can't think why that should bother me. With that info they should be able to look up my zip code and cable provider and work with the appropriate service provider to get the lineup right. I get the impression that you don't like it. Why?

I get the impression that he is wanting us to know so we can submit it with our first request instead of waiting for a replay and having to send the request in again....

Or so the petitioner can get their lineup changed immediately according to his requested update while TiVo takes the requisite time to verify that it is accurate and can be applied to everyone else.

That would be a great way to deal with any public relations problems with frustrated subscribers waiting for the update to come down the line to them. Give the vocal a fast turnaround who will report that TiVo is quick to deal with lineup problems.

Assuming the capability to push a lineup change to boxes based on serial numbers of course.

While I agree that the idea of being able to push a lineup down just for the complaining customer would be a great thing (help those who know they need it right away, confirm before changing everyone), I think TiVo's intent may be different.

Did it cross anyone's mind that TiVo is attempting to weed out "invalid" lineup change requests? I would assume that, like every other company posting contact information for things like that on the internet, that TiVo gets it's share of trouble makers submitting false information for the thrill of it. Maybe TiVo is trying to weed those out (who's going to submit their serial number with a false request?) so that in theory they can respond to valid requests sooner (not as many changes to verify with cable companies).

If TiVo (or Tribune) does indeed verify a change in lineup with the cable company, flase requests would sure piss everyone off really quick...

It sounds to me like they just want to access your account information to see what lineup you're currently using. Maybe it's easier for them to change a lineup if they have a lineup ID code that they can get from your account info.

You're probably right. My paranoia sensor must be set a little too high. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif
