Alot of ppl seemed upset with the pacing of season 2 but I liked it alot. Maybe season 3 will combine the best qualities of the first 2 seasons.

I'm not going to read it. I want to go into season 3 fresh. :)

I love the pacing of The Wire. That is how a character driven series should be written.

I should point out that I put in the "spoilers" thing before reading the article. Having read the article, I can assure you there are no S3 spoilers, other than who is writing episodes.

Maybe I'm missing something but I've watched "The Wire" for both season 1 & 2. Unlike other shows, they don't hand you much more info than what the characters themselves know, usually it takes a handful of shows for me to just figure out what the scenario is. I do like this pacing definitely as it is a change from the "neatly wrapped up in 58 minutes" genre.

I noticed that HBO is going to begin re-airing season 2 on 6/13. I'm guessing they are timing this to end just before season 3 begins. That would put the season 3 premiere around 9/5 by my calculations.

Which is what I was afraid was going to happen, since Sopranos didn't start until March and SFU will presumably start in June (neither of which I watch). Dang it, I'd much rather watch The Wire over the summer when there's less other stuff on! Ah well, I'm just happy it's coming back, I love this show.

This is the show that convinced me that HBO can do no wrong. K Street notwithstanding, this kind of show could only appear on HBO and nowhere else, and is probably the reason I will have a permanent subscription to HBO.

On a sad note, I recalled seeing somewhere, and confirmed on IMDB, that executive producer Robert Colesberry had died earlier this year. He even played a part on the show (one of the detectives in McNulty's old squad). I don't think that he played a large role in the narrative of the show, but somehow I believe we will notice his influence (or lack thereof).

The Wire, Carnival, and now Deadwood. 3 great series that show HBO can dominate nearly any genre...
